I was just told that Yokai will retail for $14.95 US, a very good price for a hardcover color book.

I just finished painting page 35, out of 56 pages. Besides the story, there will be a couple of extras--maybe a short interview, and a step-by-step look at painting a page.

I am excited. I'll have to special order one at work. The previews so far are amazing. I am happy to see that some of the pros still use the old school methods over just Corell and Photoshop. I think inks, water color, and even colored pencils and pastels (referring to Wagner's two Batman mini series and con art) are awesome mediums to find being used in the comic book art trade. I feel it shows more detail and emotion in the artist work. I look forward to this book!

"a step-by-step look at painting a page" ... awesome! (and if not in the book, perhaps some shots sent to the dojo site would be just as nice - deadlines can be a pain to try and get into the book) And forgot to add in other thread, brilliant work. Your control over watercolors is incredible.

Nice! Thank you for those! I think I had seen the book 21 article before, but the other link is new to me! Brilliant stuff. I love the insight into the rubber cement and tracing paper masking. That is one method I was unaware of.

My part of Yokai is done. I FedEx-ed the rest of the art to Diana this morning, a few days before my deadline. I had asked for 3 months to do Yokai. She gave me 2 1/2. I guess she knows me better than I do. That's why she is such a great editor.

Now I'll spend a week on the miscellaneous stuff I had been putting off--the new sketchbook, a small project with Peter Laird, etc. Then I'll start the art for UY 122 next week.

Hello Stan,

Congratulations on getting Yokai done before the deadline. That has got to be one of the major reasons why Diane loves working with you. I'm impressed because you were working with water colors, fulfilling your other work responsibilities, and making guest appearances around the country. Nicely done.

I sent in Yokai about 4 days ahead of deadline, but, for some reason, I am 3 days behind schedule.

I'm signing and drawing on 500 tip-in plates for the upcoming hard cover. That will take a couple of days.

This is wishful thinking, but Mr. Sakai do you think you might have a few early copies of Yoki for Baltimore Comic-con since the con is in October one month before the release month. I just would love to buy a copy form you and have it signed.
