A few forum changes!

Konnichi wa UYD Members!

We've made a few forum changes which we think will enhance the quality of the DojoBoard. They are:

1) Disabled Guest posting. Now you must be a registered user to post topics or replies. This should help eliminate some of those evil  postings we've been receiving. Not that's it's been a problem (the evil posts were not common), but it could prevent a future problem from happening.

2) Eliminated tracking of user post counts. Post counts have been removed from the Board to disuade users from racking up their post count by over-posting. Again, it hasn't been a problem here, but like the first change it could prevent future problems from happening. Too many posts eat up server space and overload the database!

3) I recently pruned the board. Deleted were older off-topic discussions and posts. So if you noticed a post or topic you created in the past is missing, it was probably deleted to conserve space on the server and to shrink the database a bit. We only deleted older posts, not recent ones!

Hope you enjoy the new changes and thank you for serving the UY Dojo!

VB 8)

Man, now I'll never get a chance to see one of those nasty little evil posts which I always seem to hear about but never get a chance to see. :(

Oh well, at least now I don't have to feel embarressed about how low my post count is, considering how often I visit this board. :D

I noticed my test post was pruned pretty quickly... one of these days I'll figure out how to post an image with a post!

Nice job...

Eliminating the post counts was kinda my idea. I've frequented other phpBB boards and noticed that users really try increasing their post counts to create some sort of "status" within the community. Rather than wait for such a thing to occur here we've decided to nip it in the bud. It's true that we do have a ranking system in the UYD, but it is non-DojoBoard related. It's reflected here on the DojoBoard because the rank-holders have earned it by contributing to the site. Without the Retainers this site would not be as successful as it is today.

In my oppinion it's a change for the better, quality's better than quantity. By the way, will the older posts be delated regularly? I mean a rule like "All posts older than (some number) days are deleted.", or was it a one time cleaning?

no, you get "points" for doing things for the board. the ranking system for example is for what you do, like if you help out you become a hatamoto like steve. im an exception, i wanted to be known as the biggest idiot in all the land, to save people the time of pointing it out. and i was a member of a forum where if you posted enough, you become a moderator, lots of room for disaster.

i hope you arent lost anymore

The recent pruning (prunage? :) ) was completed to reduce the size of the database and make the Board more "searchable" as an archive for Usagi-related news and things. It probably won't happen again for a long time. Usually once or twice a year, depending on activity.

miyamoto musashi- So its like, you post so many comments you get ranks too?- And you were only doing it to be the village Idiot?

VikingBabe- og Gosh now I feel Horrible! I am so sorry for all my off topicness I did not mean to gain Extra points off that- Really I had noooo Idea that happend (the ranking) --- Now I feel more like one of the causes *sighs* oh well- you did us all in for the greater good

well hatamoto steve posts interviews and stuff.

and no, no matter how much you post you probably wont get a rank. its just, you cant have a village of smart people, that would be unbalanced.

EQUILIBRIUM!!!
