I'll be a guest at two cons at the beginning of 2006, at either end of the US.

I-Con 25 will be held March 24-26 in Stony Brook, New York.

Kawaii Kon 2 is an anime fest taking place April 14-16 at the Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Heeey, just noticed that Ron Glass who played Shepherd Book in Firefly/Serenity was added to the I-Con list. That's really cool.

I know of Ron Glass from the old Barney Miller series. It wasn't filmed with a live audience, but a friend worked on that show so we were invited to a taping during the final season. We watched from on the set, met the cast, and were even given stuff as souvenirs. I especially remember veteran character actor James Gregory who had a recurring role. It was a really big thrill to see him in person.

I never connected the two roles as being done by the same actor... until I read Stan's comment, when I thought back (showing my age) about the character on Barney Miller and compared it to the Shepard Book character from Firefly (I still have not seen Serenity  ), the similarities became obvious. I still had to go take a quick look on the IMDB web-site to check and see if it was the same actor or not.

Every time I watched Firefly I knew that I recognized Ron Glass from somewhere but I couldn't put my finger on it. It wasn't till I read his bio on the I-Con site last night and saw the credit for Barney Miller that I finally realized that was where I remembered him from.

WOW. Erin Gray, of Buck Rogers fame, has been added to I-CON's guestlist!!! When I'm not bugging Stan, I will be found at Ms. Gray's table drooling in horny fanboy glee.

There are no plans for me to be in the NY area anytime soon. The closest I will be is at mid-June's Anthrocon in Pittsburgh.

The con after that will be Comic-con International: San Diego.

I've actually been declining invitations (even two European trips) to work on the issues leading up to UY #100.

It's very easy to get from NYC to Pittsburgh. I do it all the time. It's about 8 hours by car (and the directions are EASY. Most of the trip is on I-80), 9 by bus, 2 by air, and I've never tried train.

Does that mean your special idea for #100 was approved?

Actually, it's Diana's idea. It hasn't been approved yet, but it will be really cool if it does get the green light.
