The Artist Within

Dark Horse will be publishing a book of photographs by Greg Preston this summer, titled The Artist Within. For the past 20 years, Greg has been photographing cartoonists, artists, and animators in their studios. My photograph is about 15 years old, taken in my old studio--before we remodeled our house.
It's a beautiful and fascinating look at cartoonists and their work environments. Some like to work in clutter, others prefer a more pristine work space. Alex Toth refused to be photographed in his studio at all, demanding that one, and only one, picture be taken on his front porch with a disposable camera. Some creators, like Kirby and Eisner, have already passed on.
I'm really looking forward to this book, and not just because I'm supposed to be in it. It should be out in time for San Diego, so it's a good book to collect autographs in as well.
