I didn't get any Eisner nominations this year, but I did get a Harvey Awards nom--for Best Letterer. I don't have much hopes for winning, though. Todd Klein, who I consider the best letterer in the biz and a heck of a nice guy, is also nominated.
Unknown to him back then, it was Todd that got me started as a letterer. Sergio Aragones had asked me to letterer his (then new) comic book Groo the Wanderer for Pacific Comics. I accepted, though I didn't know how to go about it. Fortunately, that same month, a magazine called Comic Scene came out with a step-by-step article by Todd on how to letter comics. I pretty much followed his model and, twenty years later, I've maintained a secondary career as a letterer.
I received an Eisner Award for lettering in 1996.
