TMNT pin-up

Post by Stan Sakai »

I just mailed off my pin-up for an upcoming issue of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is a drawing of Usagi and Leonardo. I'm don't which issue or when it will appear, but I'll let you know when I find out.

Sounds great!

Any chance that you might someday do another Usagi & Leo story?

(I would also really enjoy seeing you get together with Ken Mitchroney again and doing a Space Usagi / Space Arc follow-up story to Usagi's Ark, but there is probably not much chance of it ever happening)

Oh cool, I will have to look for this.

Just yesterday while I was waiting for my wife to get ready to go out in the morning I was going through the channels and caught the Ninja Turtles cartoon and it was the one with Usagi. I only saw a minute cause she was then ready to go, but it did make me smile! (and wish for Tivo so I could have taped it!)

Wikipedia states:

In comic books, a pin-up is simply a full-page piece of artwork, most often without dialogue, that showcases a character, group of characters, or significant event, published within a single issue or annual rather than made available by itself as a poster.

The images by Tim Sale, Matt Wagner, Peter Laird, and others in The Art of Usagi Yojimbo are good examples of pinups.

Yep, as is this one by Stan, that first appeared in Donatello #1 Micro-series back in '86. When I used to read TMNT I remember they had a pin-up page in almost every issue that appeared on the inside front cover.

Yeah Todd, that is a great pin-up. Seeing Usagi in TMNT is probably what got me looking for UY back then!
