Finland and Prague

Post by Stan Sakai »

Sergio and I accepted an invitation to the Helsinki Comics Festival, September 12-13.

My Czech Republic publisher has been asking me to visit Prague for the last two years, so I thought I would take him up on his offer and travel to Europe a few days early for a signing or two in Prague. This is one city I have been wanting to visit for a long time.

I'm not sure of my exact travel plans yet.

Have any plans to visit Franz Kafka's house while you're in Prague? (If anyone here hasn't read it, I highly recommend Peter Kuper's graphic novel adaptation of "The Metamorphosis.") You might also be close to some of the places where Guillermo Del Toro shot the Hellboy movies.

Interesting, it's only about 5- 6 hours drive from my doorstep to Prague....

Does Sergio plan to accompany you on your journey to Prague, by chance?!

Meeting you in Prague would be reason enough for me to go, but the chance to see the two of you would be.... well, it would be like something you don't want to miss, you know!

Sergio will not be going to Prague. He has already visited that city. Besides, I am behind on my deadlines for Usagi, but he is even farther behind on Groo.

I will keep everyone updated on my plans as I learn them myself.

I remember Wroclaw, a wonderful city. There are a lot of cathedrals, and sections from the Berlin Wall in the city center.

Yes Sensei, both my mom and dad came to Szczecin from Wroclaw. Borders of Poland changed after WWII, and Poland gained Wroclaw, but lost much of area on the east, the polish people from east where moved then to West.

Any news about your schedule for Prague and Helsinki?

I'll have to start arranging some off-work days for September soon to get a chance to meet you in Prague....

Sorry if I sound pressing....

I will be in Prague just a little over 24 hours--a full day. I wish I could stay longer, but I am still rather behind on my deadlines. I arrive on the afternoon of Thursday, September 10, and leave for Helsinki the afternoon of Friday, September 11.

While in Prague, there will be a discussion and book signing at a old movie theater in central Prague (4-6 PM), then a signing at the Krakatit bookstore nearby where I will sign the ceiling(?). My publisher will take me sightseeing on Friday, then to the airport at 3 PM.

Hardly worth the time and effort for you to make a trip to Prague. I still hope to make it to Germany some day.

Hardly worth it ?!?
Dear Sensei, you are traveling half around the globe, so if I hop into my car for a five to six hour drive to meet you, that couldn't be called a real effort;

I've convinced my employer that I can't be in Prague and in Berlin at the same time. Now I only have to convince my wife that it is vital for me to be in Prague on the 10th and eleventh of September... maybe I'll hint at an idea for a birthday present for me....

Looking forward to seeing you on the 10th of September.

Edit: Of course, if my coming to Prague would keep you from visiting Germany, I'd think twice before making that trip...
