JANM exhibit
According to the Chinese zodiac, 2011 will be the Year of the Rabbit. To mark this, there will be a major Usagi Yojimbo exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. It is scheduled to open in July, and will run three or four months.
I have not decided exactly what to include, so I will not be selling as much of my published art for awhile. I do want to have a section of Usagi drawn by other creators, and some new stuff. I have wanted to do an Usagi on black velvet painting, so now I will have an excuse to actually do it. I still have to meet with the museum people to discuss whether we will have a catalogue or not.

I read that it's older than I thought-- the act of painting on velvet, that is. I wish Stan could actually do it, but it sounds like he's too busy to get it done in time.
Usagi on black velvet, dressed like Elvis, with rhinestones glued on, would be beyond AWESOME!

Darn it! I'll be in L.A. July 4th weekend for Anime Expo 2011, but that's a week too early for Sensei's exhibition at the Japanese-American National Museum!

Sorry Stan. I'll be in the LA area again twice the following month, but staying at LAX both time due to schedule and jet-lag... Sigh.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to make it, much too far from here. I would really appreciate it if someone who does attend the opening could send me a care package of anything Usagi related which the museum might offer such as buttons, brochure or program, etc.....
Thanks (in advance)
PS,
I also hope to see a photo posted of Anthony in the specially designed Usagi cut-out.....

Oh, talk about being so close again!
Have a layover near LAX on August 1st. Checking the Metro schedules, the Green Line and Silver Line bus would get me close to Little Tokyo (using a day pass).
Problem is, the Museum is apparently closed on Mondays!
Thinking about catching the Red Line to Hollywood instead to see Godzilla's star on the Walk of Fame, then to Little Tokyo for early dinner.
