Stan Sakai's long running, award-winning comic series, Usagi Yojimbo, tells the story of Miyamoto Usagi, a swordsrabbit with the heart of a hero, as he wanders a fantastic version of 17th-century Japan. Now, Sakai's Japan and its cast of anthropomorphic characters come to life in stories you write yourself. Explore immense castles and humble villages; meet bounty-hunters and crime bosses; battle ninja spies and scheming lords; and encounter monsters from beyond the natural world.



Take the role of a fearless samurai, a crafty ninja, a wise priest, or other adventurer in fantasy Japan. Immerse yourself in a richly-detailed world with valiant Usagi, sly Kitsune, gruff Gennosuke, clever Ishida, and other heroes from the comics. Face your challenges head-on, and be a hero!

Usagi Yojimbo RPG: Second Edition has been updated and revised with material from over thirty years of award-winning Usagi comics and the help of Stan Sakai. We've overhauled the game to be easier to learn and to be faster to play. You'll be rolling two six-sided dice, trying to score high. If you fall short of your goal, you may have to make a hard bargain to get what you want.



A unique system of story, support, and setbacks lets players work together to solve their problems. Move the plot forward and earn story points to improve later rolls... which earns you support points to help your friends. You're all in this together.

I wonder what the price of the game (printed version) will be as an add-on?

I'll probably go with the print only level.

We won't know what the final cost will be until we go to press. Any printers' bids that we receive would expire in 30 days. To save costs, we'll do smaller print runs in individual countries to avoid duties and taxes, and that varies all over the world.

The only thing I can say for sure is that the total cost for digital+print will be equal to or less than the "print only" option.

I'll probably go with the print only level.

We can definitely add more material to the game book. Our license for USAGI is limited only to the role-playing game. Rights for toys, figurines, maquettes, video games, and such are owned by other companies.

Oh man, this has me excited---don't know if any of my RPG group would be up for something so specific, though. We tend to make our own mayhem.

The last goal for COLOR is set for $30,000, so unless they can raise another $15,000 in less than 3 days the book will remain B&W.

The copy I received is a hardcover but everything I see online is about a softcover. Was this released in both softcover and hardcover form or did all the copies end up being hardcovers?

I don't recall seeing any mention on the Kickstarter one way or the other.
I received my book quite a while ago, and it is also hardcover.
I think that's the only way the book came.

Where it says that the book is a softcover. I am thinking only HC copies exist as I can’t find a photo of a softcover and I can’t imagine this book was printed more than once yet everything I can find online says softcover.

All the prior Usagi role playing books from years ago were softcover books (I have copies of them).

EDIT: So I checked my emails, and the email confirmation/invoice I received from DriveThru RPG indicates HC:

Did you order through the Kickstarter or directly from the website? Maybe the direct website sales are SC? I think they print books as they get orders. Maybe they switched over to SC? All just guesses on my part.

Perhaps Kickstarters were all HC and anything subsequent is SC. Makes it easier to tell editions apart.
