Now here's a switch-a moderator asking for help on her own board! If anyone can help me out on this, we are trying to submit some photos of the SDCC to Dark Horse Comics for printing in the UY letter column. But, the images we sent are according to Dark Horse Comics in 72 DPI. They need 300 DPI. Glenn Masuda, who sent in the photos, assures us they are 24-bit 300DPI and not 72 DPI. Can someone help me out? When you look at the info of the image (for example with the command identify -verbose in ImageMagick), you'll see that the resolution stored in the file is 72x72 DPI.
I'm not sure how to solve this. Becky-chan could probably say more about this.

I hope i won’t reply too late (just registered on this forum !)… resolution and size are linked, some electronic constructors announce 24 bit 300 dpi and so on but when you look at the exif you only see 72 dpi, that’s an extrapolation… you can see that your image is bigger than the normal size of a traditional photo. Indeed if you increase resolution you will decease the size (because we don’t deal with vectorial image)
It could be easily done with Gimp (or Photoshop …) to obtain a 300 dpi image that is a resolution needed for printing but the print size will be smaller. Let me know if you want I do it for you.
What FanFan said. It's quite possible that the pictures were taken at 300dpi but the program you've imported them into has a default of 72dpi as standard for imports. The photos haven't lost any detail (indeed they are still the same pixel width and height) but the printable area would have gone up due to the change in registered dpi of the image.
Just change the dpi to 300 with whatever program and give them a once over to make sure they are okay.
I've noticed this happen before which is why I'm not overly worried about something being wrong. Yet.
With a breeze comes a storm, but then you'll all be washed away...
