Check out
http://usagiyojimbo.com/membership/join.html and
http://usagiyojimbo.com/membership/retainers.html form related info on rankings in the UYD. It is all based on contributions to the UYD. If you're good at HTML, and have some spare time to work on the UYD, then we need you!
Here's a summary:
The Ranks within the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo are as follows:
1. Sensei : Stan Sakai, creator of "Usagi Yojimbo" and Eisner Award Winner.
2. Shogun : Todd Shogun, creator and Web Master of the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo.
3. Taisho : Members who host satellite/mirror sites of the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo or are involved in the production of the UY Comic and have contributed to the Dojo become eligible to be appointed as UYD-Taisho.
4. Daimyo : Members who contribute webpage work AND outside work to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo become eligible to be elevated to the status of UYD-Daimyo.
5. Hatamoto : Members who contribute webpage work to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo become eligible to be promoted to the rank of UYD-Hatamoto.
6. Shinobi : Members who contribute outside work (non-webpage work) to the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo become eligible to be initiated into the secret ranks of the UYD-Shinobi. (This rank is equal in status to the rank of Hatamoto.)
7. Shugyosha : All who join the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo automatically hold the rank of UYD-Shugyosha.
If you'd like to rise in rank, then express so at the DojoBoard Forum. We're always looking for people to help contribute to the site!

Its certainly a unique system...rank not based on numbers of postings.
I like it.

It prevents people from thinking they need to post 50 times a day to gain some sort of count-based rank....These ranks are completely unrelated to the DojoBoard. We also don't reveal the number of posts each member has made...such info is completely irrelevant.

Okee day. Exactly what do you "webpage work & outside work"?

...Cash donations are always accepted...!
Webpage work includes handling HTML chores, updating pages on the UYD or creating some new ones...letter column transcriptions, Story Synopses, and providing scans of cover art (like recently appointed UYD-Hatamoto Gaffey has been doing on the Cover Gallery). Anything that has to do with contributing to the website itself. Other things inlcude creating international UYD satellites, like the new UYD France site by Fanfan.
Outside work gets a little trickier, since there are less opportunities. Most of the time it is helping out at Conventions or providing the UYD with rare hard-to-get items related to Usagi Yojimbo (like what Go Smith has been doing for awhile). Kim "Leonardo-san" Garvin was nice enough to provide some kanji artwork she did for the SDCC to many UYD members who showed up for the annual UYD Gathering at Stan's booth one year. Wily Pueo was recently appointed a Shinobi for some undercover work he's done recently which I cannot yet reveal... Providing coverage of cons, photos of Stan, etc will also get you in the Shinobi ranks. Shinobi are equal in rank to Hatamoto.
Dedicated, long time Retainers like Becky-chan have gone beyond the call of duty time and time again, providing both extensive website work and outside work (she's hosted several UYD Internet Contests and even gave birth to the famous Rabbit Bodyguards website) to gain the rank of Daimyo, a rank of extreme prestige. The last Daimyo admitted to this elite group was Aaron Digulla, who designed this new DojoBoard and gave the UYD it's new look (working with expert designer Becky-chan). That was about three years ago!
Check out the Retainers page for a list of our retainers...and some examples of how they've contributed.

I became a hatamoto by converting stuff (like the FAQs) from the old website to the new one. That was more than a year ago, and I haven't been able to do anything else because of a number of reasons (I was supposed to update things this summer, but I didn't).
I'm trying to come up with a decent schedule that'll let me organize my time. If ports aren't capped at my university, I could install the Dojo Editor on a portable HD and do some work there on my spare time. But I'm really behind in my degree and besides classes I go to a study academy (I suck at math) and I'm preparing for the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English title (the exam is December 15th), so my time is currently very limited. And my planning skills are nonexistent, so I end up wasting a lot of time because of stupid things

.
If someone decides to help with updating pages but has problems with the Dojo Editor, feel free to ask

I just finished a Story Synopsis for UY #94. Should I post it or email it?(and to where?)
