Will the CCG madness continue?: Albedo #3 on eBay

Post by Maka »

Hello UY collectors:

http://tinyurl.com/lmdjf

The seller post:

"Albedo #3 Second Usagi Yojimbo Appearance CGC 9.4 Graded!

This book is highly underated and is signed by Stan Sakai with a sketch on the cover of Usagi!

It is the highest CGC graded copy of this issue on record through CGC! Take advantage of this rare gem of Usagi history!"

It sports a green grading (I don't remember what that means, perhaps it is signed and confirmed? My CCG comic I purchased on eBay was signed but sported a blue grading). And of course it's the back cover that is signed (which makes sense since that UY art). Also it's a reserve auction and the reserve price has not been met yet.

And we take exception to "This book is highly underated." ;)

Let's have a friendly wager on what it will end up as. I say the reserve is probably at least $20 more than what the comic has been going for (which I'm not really sure, but a random guess $10 - 15). I think the reserve will be met and the final price will be around $40.

I will send a couple (meaning two) older issues of UY (Vol 1) to the person who gets the closest price of the final auction winning bid (international fans can welcome to play too). These are not mint comics but ones that have been read and enjoyed. Hopefully they will continued to be read and never be CCG:ed.

I will pay for s/h (but I'm cheap, so it will be the cheapest shipping there is. Don't expect speed.).

Post guesses here. The first person to post their guess is the priority between two same bids (meaning, if two or more people post $43.50 and that is the final bid, the first person wins). Good luck!

Peace,

maka

If it's the "highest graded copy", buyers go crazy. I say it goes for $120, and you don't have to ship me the comics if I win ;)

$85.00
I want to play, but, unfortunately, I don't need the prize either. So, if I win, donate the prize to the second closest bid.

Doesn't Steve Gallacci still have copies of this issue for sale at the cover price of $2? I mean, he printed 10,000 copies. I say it never meets reserve!!! At least it shouldn't!!

Steve Gallacci

Post by go »

Dear Readers,
I have been trying to buy from Steve Gallacci for the last 6 years by email.
I will send him an email, he will say send a wish list.
I send a list and get no answer.
2 years later I send another email and repeat the process.
What is the proper way to buy from Steve Gallacci?
I have picked up a couple of original pages from Albedo on eBay so he does sell his work.
Does he sell at the San Diego Comicon?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you all for the fun!

Steve has not been to the San Diego Con in years. I last saw him at Anthrocon two years ago. He cancelled at the last minute for the 2005 Anthrocon, and I did not see his name on the guest list or dealer roster for this year.

There was a painting I had wanted to buy from him, but he never got back to me about it. So you're not the only one who is looking to get something from him.

He was really in to Civil War re-enactments, and spent many weekends doing that.

And he used to be so easy to track down...Hey Go, let me know what you need and I'll see what I can do. Stan, I'm surprised that even you are having problems. Perhaps he prefers dealing with sales in person ??

What makes this issue less expensive that Albedo #2? I realise its the second appearence, but were there more issues printed or something.

I just find it strange that #2 can fetch prices of a grand or more and this issue is going for 30 bucks.

Hello UY Collectors,

Beware of this auction. I finally realized what the Green CCG label means:

"The Qualified label is green, and indicates that one qualifying defect is present on a book. An example of such qualifying feature would be a missing Marvel Value Stamp that does not effect the story. While such a book may technically be graded Fair 1.0, it may appear to grade NM 9.6."

Isn't that just a little crazy?

You are right. More issues were available.

I think Albedo #2 is way more expensive because of basic economics, supply and demand. More people demand it (because it is the first appearance of UY) and the supply is limited.

I thought Albedo #3 should be more expense than #4 because it was the second appearance of UY and the 1st appearance of Tomoe. But #4 is doesn't have as many copies, so it goes for more (and perhaps having UY on the cover "adds" value.)

Go figure.

Peace,

maka

I don't recall ever seeing an issue of Albedo ever a convention. I would like those UY Albedo issues, as I'm a completist, but I'd hate to pay so much for them.

More importantly, Albedo #3 never sold out. There were way too many copies floating around for years after. If #4 didn't sell out right away, then it probably sold out half a year later when the Anthro craze peaked and people started buying up the first Usagi appearances. It's never been hard to find a #3, and that affects prices far more than the actual print run numbers do.

It's also an Usagi cover. It's hard to spend a lot of money on a Usagi book that bears no reference to Usagi on the cover.

And the WINNER is.....?

Heh heh... missed it by a buck and a half...

It had to be a lucky guess...

Oh yeah, the winner is the closest to the actual final bid, without going over (like on the TV game show "The Price is Right") :( Aren't you glad I'm not in charge of the rules for this contest?

I am curious as to just how how he set the reserve, and whether or not he really intended to sell the comic or if he just wanted to see how much people were willing to bid on it.

Abayo....

Ah yes, I could have thought more about the rules of this contest. :)

But since I didn't, venom wins. Congrats. Please PM me your address and I'll get your books out to you.

Peace,
