space usagi ashcan edition

Post by Maka »

Hello UY Collectors,

Here's a pretty rare comic (at least I haven't seen it up for auction in a long while):

Ends in 12 hours or so. Good luck.

Peace,

This is the second of two Space Usagi ashcans. The first was printed by Mirage, and contained the entire story from SU vol 1 #1. This one on ebay was published by Dark Horse, and printed about half of SU vol3 #1.

Maka pointed out:
Here's a pretty rare comic (at least I haven't seen it up for auction in a long while):
If it is any consolation, it sold to a Dojo member. Me! And I wanted to point out, my top bid would have been quite a bit higher than the final selling price; Albedo #2 is not the only Usagi collectible with a fairly low print run.
Collectors may soon realize that if you are a "completeist" and want everything published about our hero, there are some *really* hard items to get your hands on, at any price. Its a shame the market works this way, and even more of a shame that Mr. Sakai does not benefit from the high resale prices . . . but this is one copy of the Space Usagi Ashcan that will not be available again in my lifetime!

So, anyone have an extra copy of the Mirage Ashcan for sale or trade??
sincerely,
Shadowfax

According to Todd's SDCC report it's UYD Shugyosha John Healey.

Great addition to your collection, you will really like it. Since it is not mentioned in the description, the ashcan edition is closer to being digest sized:

b/w comic, 16 pages (5.5" X 8.5") Nov. 1995

Below is an excerpt from the Dark Horse Press Release (sorry, I have been unable to find the release date for this)
Dark Horse Comics Press Release wrote: STAN SAKAI BRINGS USAGI YOJIMBO TO DARK HORSE
.....Retailers can obtain a special 16-page preview booklet of Space Usagi #1 by sending a business card to Dark Horse Comics to the attention of the marketing department. "The preview booklet is free," said vice president of sales and marketing Lou Bank. "It's a very high-quality package, with a color cover, and it can be handed to customers to interest them in the series. And in the back of the preview is a sign-up sheet, so that those interested customers can give you a concrete promise that they will buy the comic from you if you'll order it from Diamond. This is a very simple, common-sense approach to elightening retailers and consumers to a series about which they may know nothing."

I don't think the Mirage one is as nice as the Dark Horse produced ashcan, but you might still have a bit more competition for the Mirage Space Usagi ashcan if one ever shows up on ebay again.

I saw one a few years ago on ebay but never got a chance to bid on it.

Abayo....

Actually I was going to bid but my bloody transport home was delayed and I didn't get back until just after the auction finished. Would have been interesting to see if I would have outbid you now heh.
