Well, it's legit in that it's my artwork (taken from the splash page to My Lord's Daughter), but it's an unauthorized print. It's not a big deal, however, because as the seller/store states, it was a premium for some Usagi customers. No doubt this is a left over from the print run of less than a dozen. I still own the original art, so it must have been enlarged considerably from the comic or trade paperback. The quality would probably leave much to be desired. At least he put a copyright tag at the bottom.

If the print run was much larger, and/or he was making a substantial profit off of this, I would turn the matter over to Dark Horse.

I would liken this to someone who draws a picture of Usagi and sells it.

Dear Readers,
As a shinobi i am constantly looking out for the well being of my Sensei.
I wrote the seller and asked him to consider pulling the item. Here is his response:
"We created promotional items when none existed. Its display helped sell quite a few Usagi books, so Stan has profited from its existence, if indirectly.
The actual number of these was probably closer to 3 or 4, and this is the only one I had left, so it will not be offered again.
There is a bid on the piece, so I cannot remove it. Stan himself told you it was "no big deal." And I'm sure if he was fully aware of the degree to which we promoted his work as compared to 99% of other comic shops, he would have no problem whatsoever.

I will attempt to contact Mr. Sakai myself to make the matter clear.

And by the way, the quality of the print is quite good. It was taken from an interior page of AMAZING HEROES and was shot at 600 dpi.

I am a creator myself, and I appreciate and respect intellectual property rights. The appropriate copyright appeared on every promo we created, and our Diamond Comics rep was always completely aware of our promotional efforts.

Thank you for your concern,
Marcus Lusk"
Best wishes to all!

If what Marcus said is true, I just cannot fault the guy for going out of his way to promote Usagi in his store. He produced advertising material out of his own pocket for a comic he thought was worth promoting. I just hope he hasn't quit trying to promote it, since he is selling the print.

It does seem to indicate that Dark Horse Comics and/or Diamond Comic Distributors need to provide retailers with some "Authentic" and up-to-date promotional materials to help increase sales, especially with issue #100 coming up soon.

Something like a poster of the upcoming Usagi cover of Previews would be a cool promotion from Diamond (and then I could bug my local comic shop to let me buy it, therefore defeating the purpose :? )

Abayo....

This is very true. What got me started reading Usagi was visual exposure, in the form of pin-ups and advertisements. Usagi's design was so cool, it was absolutely necessary for me to invstigate further. of course, that was way back when during the black-and-white explosion. But similar efforts can be made...

The only thing that worries me is that when someone sees an Usagi promotion, they'll quickly dismiss it as "that rabbit from the TMNT cartoons" and never give it an honest try. I remember getting pretty frustrated once at this last SDCC, when this guy working at one of the exhibits I was checking out, asks me about the Albedo NR 2 shirt I was wearing. At first, I was like, "cool, he knows Usagi"! Of course when he asked "isn't he from TMNT cartoons???" I was a little more than disappointed....

The seller did contact me, and everything is straightened out. I'm surprised he pulled the listing though.

In the interests of bringing this to closure, I was the one who had the bid on the item, and the seller contacted me to say he was closing the auction because he had misspelled the title "USAGO" and therefore nobody would be able to find it.

He sold it to me for a very reasonable price, and (once it arrives) it will reside safely in my collection.
