personally i never understood why certain prints sell for so much. original art i totally understand, it's one of a kind original. prints on the other hand are just quality copies. the fact that it has a signature and a number on it does nothing for me. no knock against anyone who collects or is into prints, it just doesnt tickle my fancy.

It's one of the very earliest of Usagi prints that was made, hence it is harder to find than most others. I think this one was from 1991 or so. I only got my hands on a copy of it a couple of years back.

Very cool print! I lucked out and managed to buy a pair of them a few years ago. Unfortunately, one of them disappeared into the limbo of lost international mail. I originally planned on using the second one as a prize for some Dojo contest or another, but it ended up being sent in replacement for the missing one. Of course, I still love looking at the very first one I bought which is hanging on my own wall.

Screenprints are far far far from "quality copies".plasticplayhouse wrote:personally i never understood why certain prints sell for so much. original art i totally understand, it's one of a kind original. prints on the other hand are just quality copies. the fact that it has a signature and a number on it does nothing for me. no knock against anyone who collects or is into prints, it just doesnt tickle my fancy.
Individual ink colors are mixed by hand, and each color is printed separately, left to dry, then put back on the press for the next color.
It's an extremely labor-intensive printing method, and the results it yields are noticeably superior to most other printing methods. Screenprints are worth your money.

interesting and noted. though personally i still would'nt pay that much for a print, i at least now know why some other may chose to do so. i appreciate you taking the time to educate a fellow fanCasey Burns wrote:Screenprints are far far far from "quality copies".plasticplayhouse wrote:personally i never understood why certain prints sell for so much. original art i totally understand, it's one of a kind original. prints on the other hand are just quality copies. the fact that it has a signature and a number on it does nothing for me. no knock against anyone who collects or is into prints, it just doesnt tickle my fancy.

It was naturally a lot cheaper at the time, but give 20 years, limited supply and how many still are out there and willing to part with them, then that's what raises the price.
