This collectors set includes:
A 1.25" in diameter metal button of Usagi - which we think dates from the early '90's. Button is in fine condition with light to minor wear.
A Usagi Yojimbo ashcan comic published by Dark Horse Comics in 1995. Entitled "Space Usagi" this story is 16 pages in b x w written by Stan Sakai. Ashcan is in Very Fine-Near Mint condition with some very light abraided corners.
This is the first I've ever seen of this particular Usagi Yojimbo button.
Regarding the Space Usagi "Ashcan" edition, here is the Dark Horse Comics press release which describes it.
Stan Sakai brings Usagi Yojimbo to Dark Horse
Beginning in January 1996, Stan Sakai's rabbit samurai Usagi Yojimbo will make his home at Dark Horse Comics. Usagi will appear in two separate miniseries in 1996, the first one beginning in January with Space Usagi. The second miniseries commences in April with Usagi Yojimbo.
As the title of the first miniseries implies, Space Usagi puts Sakai's sword-wielding hero into a very different milieu than the one to which his legions of fans have become accustomed. In this series, Usagi must accompany the leader of his clan, Lord Kiyoshi, on a perilous quest through space to recover his clan's lost treasure and to prove that the youthful liege is fit to rule.
"Space Usagi is a very solid adventure story," said editor Jamie S. Rich. "It's the sort of story fans have wanted to see return to comics for a long time. It's a suspenseful tale of loyalty and betrayal."
Retailers can obtain a special 16-page preview booklet of Space Usagi #1 by sending a business card to Dark Horse Comics to the attention of the marketing department. "The preview booklet is free," said vice president of sales and marketing Lou Bank. "It's a very high-quality package, with a color cover, and it can be handed to customers to interest them in the series. And in the back of the preview is a sign-up sheet, so that those interested customers can give you a concrete promise that they will buy the comic from you if you'll order it from Diamond. This is a very simple, common-sense approach to elightening retailers and consumers to a series about which they may know nothing."
Space Usagi is a three-issue monthly black-and-white miniseries, starting in January 1996.
I believe this is the FIRST Usagi comic(?) published by Dark Horse Comics.

I take it you never received the scan I sent you a couple weeks ago of the Space Usagi "ashcan" edition for inclusion in the "Cool Collectables" section of the dojo. I also sent scans of the Phantom Usagi trading card, and the Famous Comic Book Creators trading card featuring Stan Sakai.
The image files might have been too large. Let me know if you want me to try sending them again.
Abayo...
That looks like the pin-back button that Mirage made just prior to the release of the first Mirage UY. It has a cropped image of the cover of Mirage's UY #1. I believe they were given away at the San Diego Comic-con, and maybe Philadelphia.
As for the ashcan, it was published by Dark Horse and was a promotion for the Space Usagi III miniseries. This was actually the second Space Usagi ashcan. Mirage had published one for the first SU min. It was completely b/w, including the cover, and printed the entire first issue. Another promotion that Mirage did was a magnet of Usagi standing with a sword. This was years prior to the magnet of Usagi and Spot that was made for Trilogy Tour 2.
