Stan Sakai Usagi Yojimbo Signed Art

Features cover art for "Art of Usagi Yojimbo: 20th Anniversary Edition" hardcover book, by Dark Horse Comics!

Up for auction is an exclusive, limited edition, hand signed and personalized Usagi Yojimbo art piece. Mr. Sakai released a limited series of 100 dynamic black & white color pieces to honor the release of his "Art of Usagi Yojimbo: 20th Anniversary Edition" hardcover book by Dark Horse Comics.

This is #8 of 100!!! The exquisite artwork is sold by its original owner, and is in absolutely pristine condition. Image files of Stan Sakai proudly signing and holding the piece will be emailed to the winning bidder, as can be seen below. Included in these photos is a picture of Mr. Sakai holding the original, valued at $1,200, next to the #8 up for auction.

Is a definite MUST HAVE for any Usagi Yojimbo fan and collector!!! The large size [dimensions are: 25" x 17"] cries out to be framed, and would look STUNNING on display in any home.

Buy with confidence from a trusted eBay Power Seller. You will not be disappointed.

The original art piece sells for $1,200. What a great opportunity, then, to own an otherwise very expensive Usagi Yojimbo piece at a relatively affordable price! This artwork has been sold out by Mr. Sakai since going on the market, and is incredibly hot.

Please see my other auctions for other antique collectibles!

Specifics behind artwork:

Is a unique, limited edition item from the 1990's / 2000s Usagi Yojimbo Dark Horse era.
Has been sold out by Mr. Sakai since going on the market and is very hot!
Based on today's market, value of rare, commemorative pieces such as these are easily in the hundreds.
Artwork has an amazing rich, "dark," dynamic color and black & white polished appearance.
Is in absolute 100% mint condition, and has never been exposed to sunlight or heat.
Has absolutely no blemishes, such as fingerprint marks, soiled edges, etc.
Is suitable for framing and home display.
Signed and personalized by Stan Sakai.
Commemorates the hardcover book cover of "Art of Usagi Yojimbo: 20th Anniversary Edition," by Dark Horse Comics
Auction includes picture of Stan Sakai both holding and signing art piece!!! Pictures will be e-mailed to the lucky winner.
Original art piece sells for $1,200!!!

Upon receipt of payment, the artwork will be shipped within either a secure bubble envelope and sturdy large box, with plenty of inside filler to prevent damage, or a mailing tube with the artwork rolled inside. Depends on how much you want to pay for shipping. [Note: The shipping amount noted in this auction applies to shipping it in a large box, as an oversize fee will apply from the Post Office, despite its low weight, because of its size. If you'd rather it be rolled, and shipped in a tube, shipping will be closer to $8.50.] If you have ANY questions at all, please e-mail me prior to placing a bid. Payment is due or needs to be sent within 5 calendar days of auction close.

While Paypal is the preferred method of payment, personal checks and money orders are welcomed, too. (Please allow 7 days for checks to clear).

Only Paypal payments made by Paypal verified users, who have confirmed shipping addresses, will be accepted.

CA Residents please add 7.75% for sales tax.

Thanks for looking!

$100.00 from Dark Horse.

AND-- I'll bet you can STILL get it from Dark Horse or Stan for that!!!

And I love Stan's work, but I personally wouldn't pay over three times what that guy paid for it just so he could make a profit...

Someone might get lucky and be the only bidder and get the print for $79.99 plus shipping (aprox. same price as at the convention).

It would be interesting to hear how well the prints sold at the convention, whether or not they did sell out. I can see a hundred prints selling pretty quick myself (I can also see Stan winning an Eisner or two every year he releases an issue of Usagi) but I might be a little optimistic.

Abayo...

You are right I am sure-- but when I left around 3:30 yesterday, there were still some for sale-- I don't pretend to know how many, but still...

That guy sure is banking a lot on the hopes of making a profit-- but he probably will.

Did you see any similar products (i.e. limited edition s/n prints) being sold by Dark Horse or any of the other publishers in the same price range?

I don't know for sure, but I think this is the highest priced Usagi print released up to now. Since my comic collecting interests are pretty limited, I don't have any idea what else is being offer for other creator's characters and for what price.

I cannot honestly say, as I was so consumed with not being trampled by the crowds (being only 5' 2" and easily overlooked). But there were a few things for sale at high prices-- but I couldn't tell you for sure what they were or who was selling them, beyond those statues and stuff (you know, "collectables"...)

Hope you still managed to have an enjoyable time and got a chance to spend some time with Stan and those Dojo members who where able to attend.

Besides seeing Stan, what else or who else did you look for or make an effort to se or meet at the convention?

I got to the voice actors' panel, which I always try to get to, and Gary Owens joined them half-way through. I missed the Quick Draw 'cause I had arranged to meet up with someone--I wanted to see Rob Zombie, but wasn't able to. I finally met up with a member from another site that I go to-- she is also a dojo member-- but by the time we met up, we missed the 2 o'clock meet up at Stan's-- I didn't get to get to see Sergio at his table, or Donna Barr (I think she was there with Roberta Gregory, but I'm not sure)-- and my spending was so limited, after picking up what I'd requested from Stan (for others) there was little left to spend on myself-- which is just as well!

But it was nice after all these years to say hi to Stan and to talk with Sharon for a bit!

And you?

Last time I was in San Diego was 1984...

I've actually made it to two conventions in my life though, both in 1994.

I got to meet Sergio in the late spring of 1994 at the Chicago Comic con, back before Wizard took them over.

Then I got a chance to meet Stan at Detroit's Motor City Comic Con in the fall of 1994. While there, I also got a chance to meet and talk to Mike Grell, who was the first "Creator" which I ever associated with a specific character.

The only other comics I've had much interest in has been the Lone Wolf and Cub series by Koike and Kojima, as well as the Samurai Executioner series by them as well. I tend to think of that as an outgrowth of my interest from reading Usagi Yojimbo. It would be cool to meet Kazuo Koike, but I think I would have preferred to have met Goseki Kojima before he died.

The Limited Edition print sold fairly well actually. I sold about 3 or 4 while I was working at the UY booth on Friday. Stan had some really low numbers and that is what attracted them over from DHC's booth.

Sorry to see one is up on eBay already, especially when you can get one from DHC. Perhaps the seller is hoping they will sell out of the 100 copies and drive fans into a frenzy. Oh well....

This guy posted pics of Stan with it on eBay as well. I hope no one else bids on it and he has to let it go for less than he paid.

On-line? I don't see a link yet. I interested in picking one up if they are still available.

Peace,
