Is it just me or should Albedo #3 be worth more than #4?

Hello UY Collectors,

Issue number three is the first appearance of Tomoe and the second appearance of UY. Seems like the introduction of this major character should be worth more. But Issue #4 seems to go for more because it's the second cover of UY in print.

Which issue is the first appearance of Gen? That should be worth more too, I would think.

Peace,

More importantly, it's a scarcity issue. #3 had a very high print run. Many copies didn't sell and it took a very long time to get rid of the bulk of the surpluss. As a result, #4 had a much smaller print run and is much harder to find.

Gen's first appearance was in Critters #1, which had a very high print run and is very easy to locate at most local comic book stores that deal in independent titles. Until Usagi and Gen become hot enough to cause investors to swarm back issue storerooms, grabbing up copies of Critters #1, the comic's value isn't going anywhere.

Not to say that this <i>shouldn't</i> happen, only that it probably won't.

Good point.

I believe issue 3 had the highest print run of any of the Albedo issues, with the possible exception of issue 8 (1st series).

I just found a copy of #3 today and I was really psyched. Guess it's not that big a deal. I paid $10, did I do well or get ripped off??

Can't say for sure, but I paid $10 and $15 for it back around 1990 sometime. I originally bought it for the Groo and Usagi drawing by Sergio Aragones in the letter pages, back before I started reading and collecting Usagi Yojimbo.

It must have been the first Usagi story I ever bought. I always concidered UY v.1 #11 (The Tea Cup, with the Catnippon back-up story by Sergio Aragones) the first one.

If it's NM, you did very well. The book sells as high as $40 in that condition. Some greedy sellers have it on BIN for as high as $60, but no one's buying. $15 seems to be the standard going price for a Fair copy.
