What do these films have in common? They are all available on DVD from Criterion, as well as many other great films.

If there are any of the Criterion DVDs which you are concidering adding to your collection, now is the time to do it.

Deep Discount DVD, which is already one of the least expensive places on the internet to purchase DVDs, is having a sale on Criterion Collection DVDs.

I just ordered Sword of Doom (to replace my vhs version) for $16.47 with FREE delivery. Check them out if you need any Kurosawa films or the Samurai Trilogy starring Toshiro Mifune, or any other great Criterion release.

While you are there, check out their everyday great prices on the Zatoichi films and television episode sets, all at great low prices. And the best part is that the FREE shipping option is available for any size purchase.

The reliably excellent Criterion Collection presents these four diverse and intriguing 1960s samurai films. Not as well known as those of, for instance, Akira Kurosawa, these movies nevertheless make important contributions to the genre in their own ways, and they play with its conventions even as they ...

Not a bad deal! I just may take part in it. Thanks for sharing!

I know it's not samurai-related, but "Ikiru" is my all time fav Kurosawa film. I'll have to see if they have it.

I have taped Yojimbo and SS, but I wouldn't mind them letter-boxed.

I never heard of Sword of Doom.

You have got me curious as to whether Deep Discount DVDs' free delivery extends to Canada.....
Criterion Collection website wrote:SWORD OF DOOM (Kihachi Okamoto) Tatsuya Nakadai and Toshiro Mifune star in the story of a wandering samurai who exists in a maelstrom of violence. A gifted swordsman—plying his trade during the turbulent final days of Shogunate rule—Ryunosuke (Nakadai) kills without remorse, without mercy. It is a way of life that ultimately leads to madness. The Criterion Collection is proud to present director Kihachi Okamoto’s swordplay classic The Sword of Doom, the thrilling tale of a man who chooses to devote his life to evil.
An excellent film, and a very intriguing story. It is based on the novel Daibosatsu Toge (The Pass of the Great Buddha, The Sword of Doom’s Japanese title) and unfortunately it is only part one of what was supposed to be a three part story but which was never cotinued.

Here is a link to the Criterion Collection essay by Geoffrey O'Brien:

One of these days, I plan on picking up copies of the Satan's Sword Trilogy (directed by Kenji Misumi and starring Raizo Ichikawa), and the two part Souls in the Moonlight (directed by Tomu Uchida and starring Kinnosuke Nakamura), both of which are based on the same novel as Sword of Doom.

My confusion.

Dear Readers,
Steve, thank you for the clarification.
I mistakenly thought "Sword of Doom" was one of the "Satan's Sword Trilogy".
Recently saw "Kill!" and all I can say is "WOW!"
Reminds me of the secretive aspects of a recent Usagi mining story...
If you enjoy Samurai cinema and have not already, you will enjoy "Killl!".
Thank you all for the fun!!
Best wishes,
go
