Your copy of Albedo #2?

Post by shaxper »

Just curious. With all the crazy prices we're seeing for mid to high grade Albedo #2s these days, I'd like to know what you paid for yours. I suspect a trend that fans have consistantly paid more for the book as time has gone on.

So...

When did you buy your Albedo #2?
What condition is it in (and is it CGCed)?
How much did you pay?
Where did you get it?

When did you buy your Albedo #2?
Last year

What condition is it in (and is it CGCed)?
VF (not CGCed)

How much did you pay?
It came as part of a lot but, considering what I was willing to pay for the rest of the lot, I figure I paid between $250 and $300 for the issue.

Where did you get it?
An ebay auction. It was a full run of Albedo issues. I believe Maka posted a link to it in this very forum.

Mine's in NM, but I bought it back in the late 80s at the SDCC for $100. Heck no is it not CGC-graded. Wouldn't that mean it would actually have to leave my possession for awhile? And why would I spend money CGC-grading my books if I did not plan on selling them? 8) I can only see the CGC-grading applying to books for sale only, or books held for investment. I'd feel comfortable buying an Albedo NR2 that is CGC-graded only because it's practically guaranteed to be in the condition stated (assuming I actually cared about the condition). I'd rip it out of it's slab the moment I got it though, and stick it in a mylar snug for easy access. The big problem with the CGC scam is that some sellers seem to charge a premium just because it is CGC-graded, as if that makes it worth more than it actually is.

I couldn't agree more about the CGC process, and could probably write a book on why I think it's utterly ridiculous. I simply asked in the survey because it does tend to affect purchase price, even if it shouldn't.

Yes, I did post it here. I want to congratulate you on that purchase again. The price you got (seeing how early issues of albedo are going for now days) was quite a good deal. Plus the collector in me loves to see complete sets go to a good home. :)

I bough a 7.0 CGC comic on eBay in 2005. Todd posted it in this forum as well. It was a BIN auction on eBay. I paid $200.

Peace, maka

The fool didn't know what he had.

You are lucky, Go.

Still don't have one.

And I want to thank you again! Completing two super rare collections in one auction was a dream come true. :D

When did you buy your Albedo #2?
1998

What condition is it in (and is it CGCed)?
VF/NM

How much did you pay?
$20 plus $5 shipping (maybe $25 plus shipping  )

Where did you get it?
After a couple of months of calling random comic shops around the U. S. asking if they had a copy, I ran across it listed in a "half price sale" in the Comics Buyer's Guide. Was CGC even around then? (I am proud to say that I don't own a single CGC graded comic)

On a side note:
A month later, I was in a semi-local comic shop in a nearby city where I had previously seen a copy a few years earlier, and I found out that I had been mistakenly told on the phone that it had been sold. They still had the copy hanging on the wall instead of in the box with the rest of the Albedo issues. I passed on the store information to another dojo member who promptly purchased it by mail.

Abayo....

When did you buy your Albedo #2?

Around 1994-95

What condition is it in (and is it CGCed)?

NM not CGC'd although I'm thinking about it since I have the story in reprints

How much did you pay?

I bought 2-15 for $25 if I remember right (I do remember that the person selling them wasn't able to find 0 and 1 at that point)

Where did you get it?

Long story...but to make it short, I bought it from a local dealer who came into a huge collection of just about every comic printed from (at that point) the last 30 years. (It just happened to be at a convention but I had already asked him about them)
