Con stuff question...

What is normally sold in a Stan Sakai booth/table at a Con?

Any complete comic runs of the Mirage/Fantagraphics comics? Or any early issues of the Dark Horse run?

I know the trades are out there in the online stores but I wanted to know if Stan sells any complete sets of the early comic runs too...

Thanks!

No, he doesn't. That's a lot to add to the luggage haul. ;)
He'll have the most recent two or three issues, whatever sketchbooks he still has in stock, original art, maybe the most recent trade, and maybe some cloisonne pins.

Actually, Stan does sell sets of comics at SDCC. I believe each issue is also individually signed. Check out the SDCC 2007 thread.

I bring complete set of volumes 1&2 to San Diego. Volume 1 goes for $125 and volume 2 for $50, which equates to just over $3 an issue--about the price for a current UY comic, and all unread and signed.

Before each con, I start a "what should I bring" thread on the Dojo Boards. Dojo members can request I bring a particular piece of original art, an issue they're missing, particular freebies, complete sets, etc. This is also the best time to request a special commission.

Wow, that's awesome! I've been searching for the early issues for a long time. Any complete sets would rule! Will you be at the Florida Con at Deerfield Beach in December? I can't remember who mentioned a Florida appearance....

Do you also have Usagi posters/prints too? I didn't know they made a poster of the Usagi Yojimbo #100 wraparound cover. That one looks very awesome.

I will be at MegaCon in Orlando, Fl in March. I do have some prints, but have sold out of many. The large UY 100 print was a free promotion. I pretty much ran out of them at San Diego, but may have one or two left.

San Diego is the exception. It is the only con to which I bring complete sets of volumes 1&2, as well as all the trades and whatever hardcovers I have. Still, even at this con as well as any others, it is better to request and reserve anything you are particularly searching for.

My only advice when buying original artwork from Mr. Sakai is that if you see a piece you like, buy it right away.

I found a piece I liked a lot (Usagi in the rain) and I went to show my friend who was talking to Billy Tucci (nice guy). I turned back to Stan's table and someone else was buying the piece! Oooh, that burned. But to be honest its pretty freaking funny too.....in a bad way.

Wow, that sucks. If ever there was a lesson learned, that was it...

Billy is a very nice guy. He's working on a Sgt Rock story for DC about the 442nd--the all Nissei platoon. There is a surprise in there.

I guess I'm going to buy a non-UY when this comes out. Does anyone know when it comes out?

Peace, maka
