I just saw cover art from issue #22 (vol. 3) go for $700 on Ebay on a 'buy it now'. I had no clue that it can go for so much. Any other input on cover art value from the UY collection?

Oh yeah, I ran into a local collectible shop looking to pick up Uncanny X-men #500 as it had been sold out at my usual source and I looked through a lot of the guy's toys. Sitting on the floor partially under a table was the Katsuichi / Young Usagi statue in it's box with the cool set of cards with sensei's recognizable signature. It had an original $99.99 sticker on it and had been marked down three times to what I got it for $9.99! Whoohoo, couldn't believe it! My boy, who is 22 months, saw the box I was carrying and said "'jimbo!". That was crazy cuz the only picture on the outside of the box is a sillouette of the statue and the name. He's just super smart. Of course, he sees so much of UY that I shouldn't be surprised. He tries to say it like I do with a strong male Japanese accent (I'm only 1/2 and only know a smattering of it, but, can do a great Japanese voice saying UY). I'm going to have to record him copying me as I say it, lol. Anywhoo, have a blessed week everyone!

Well, I have to admit that I find 700 US $ as BIN really quite reasonable; that is about the price I'd expect to pay for recent cover art (in fact, that would have been the price for the cover art of # 113; only some unexpected expenses at the begining of this year kept me from accepting such a good offer).

Sure, it still is a lot of cash to spend on a picture you just hang on your wall, but then again....

Yeah that is the ballpark area that Sensei sells his cover art for. Other items at this year's SDCC that I hadn't seen him offer before were a bit more expensive... not out of my price range, just out of my ready to hand cash range! The art for the 1999 anniversary poster was still available by the time I left late on Sunday for example, but someone had snapped up the Anything Goes artwork (also used on the Usagi computer game) which when I saw it, was gonna make an offer on as well.

Sensei did mention who bought it (someone who is on the forum) but I forget the name... I hope to see a proper scan/shot of the artwork for posterity sake

That got bought as well. A person from the Philippines was very interested in it. However, since I cannot take credit cards, and he did not have cash on hand, he had to pass it up. I told him it will probably be at the 2009 SD Con. It had lain on the table the last 4 days, so what are the odds that someone will buy it in the next hour. It is too large to take to other shows that I fly to, so, of course, it should be back. He was assured, and left.

Five minutes later, it was bought by another person.

It was hard to let that piece go.

It's great to hear about it all. I'm learning more and more about the art/collectible side than just the comic collecting side. I ran across a news clip online about UY #1 Vol. 1 cover art that sold for about $2550 back in 2005.
