UY Book 3 HC: this might be a record

I knew I would have to let it pass five minutes before end of auction (it was up to 256 US$ then), but I never would have thought it would go this high up:

Is this the record for a HC paid?

I still can't believe Mayhem got outbid at the last moment....

Well, that Juliab488 is the same person who went into a bidding war with Mayhem over that colored print; and she's won the auction for this drawing:

So she seems to be a real UY fan (and with quite a big budget); maybe she'll find her way into this forum eventually...

I thought the user ID sounded familiar... but yeah, first time I've seen book #3 since I started collecting the h/c and I can't believe I didn't get it!

I'd like to know how she managed to place five bids in five seconds at the end though, all for different amounts... multiple auto snipes? I think my timing was a little off on my snipe as well... a good five seconds too early at least...

Next question... which will turn up first again, this h/c or the print I won? :?

Well, I'm an optimist: I guess the HC will turn up tomorrow, with Mayhem not being able to bid (due to accumulated expenses) and Juliab488 satisfied with her copy....leaving me the sole bidder on that auction...

Ok, ok, but a man can dream, can he not?

I guess I should be happy with the Spanish tpb of book 3 which I picked up last week..... :?

Well, the ebay person Juliab488 seems to fill up a HC collection; she's won those auctions, too:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Usagi-Yojimbo-Hardc ... dZViewItem

... and probably the Demon Mask HC auction by the same seller as well (which I didn't watch, so I can't be certain).

Now, someone that devoted should be here in the forum, shouldn't he?

I am not sure if I waited too long before I attempted to place my bid with 7 seconds left on the Fathers and Sons HC auction or if my bid was "bumped" by one of those last second bids by Juliab488, but I ended up not even getting my bid in. I am curious if my bid would have been higher than Juliab488.

I sure wish I had $1300 to spend on ebay auctions in one week! :?

And hope for more... interesting development time. Apparently Julia has not paid for the book and the seller has sent me a second chance offer. Yeah I've double checked to make sure it wasn't a fake email ;)

Question is, do I take it? Do bears relieve themselves in tree rich environments?!

There's another couple of auctions I'm hoping to win this month (non Usagi related)... this is gonna be expensive! Thankfully I did a shed load of overtime last month so this month's pay packet is gonna be bigger than normal too...

Hmm, wait a minute:
this Julia person did not pay and the seller offers you that book for your highest bid, right?

Well, it seems a little hasty, the auction was only three or four days ago....

Could not the seller and Julia be somehow connected to wringe as much out of that auction?? Julia only being someone to push the bidding as far up as possible???

Could I be too paranoid????

Just my two pence thoughts...

Possibly. I understand the concern as well, given it's three days. But the email from the guy says he's not heard a sausage from her (message or payment wise), which rather suggests she's backed out. Some sellers do ask that people pay within a few days of auction end (mainly because the shipping has already been given in the listing so there is no real reason for hold up) and will move on if they don't get a response.

Given all the other Usagi purchases by her this month from three other sellers, it's hard to see possible collusion. More likely she's blown her budget and can't afford the price I pushed it up to. Her feedback has one negative against for exactly the same thing.

In anything of course caveat emptor. But buggered if I'm gonna wait for another #3 h/c to turn up... this will just leave me Grasscutter to acquire. Yeah... another wait... for who know how long!

I'm leaning towards Thomas' inkling though even if she is just backing out cuz she can't pay then all her bidding still jacked up the price probably beyond what it would have went for without her insanity. I'd suggest to the seller to post it back on Ebay again and bid what you were planning. I doubt it'd reach the heights it did previously. What is the 2nd bid offer price by the way?

555 US$;

...and without julia's bidding, Mayhem would have gotten it for "mere" 315 US $!

It's all a balancing act... true I could decline, but he may not list it again. Or he might and someone else nutsy enough to bid high who didn't spot it the first time comes in and wins it instead. Sometimes when an item such as this is so bloody rare you take it regardless...
