My sons have read most of Usagi from the trades. Lately they have been more interested in the single issues. especially if its unique i.e. color specials, the Mirage run or anything out of the ordinary. They also enjoy them in the original larger format. I'm happy to oblige them by cracking open my old issues but kids will be kids. I don't want to nag them about creasing them or ripping them so I decided to get them a complete collection of single issues. I have doubles of many of them so I was off to a good start. A couple weeks before Christmas I bid on several lots of Usagi issues on EBay I won several and have almost gotten them a complete collection.
I obtained most of the lots from one seller who must have gotten them or had them signed at a convention by Stan because the majority of them are all signed. My kids were super excited about that but the other day as they were reading through them I heard an excited shout " SWEEEET AWESOME, dad check this out ! " They had color special # 1 special edition open to the last page. There on what should have been a blank page was a cool little sketch by Stan. I know these are quite common for Stan to do at conventions but to my boys you would have thought they had won the lottery, there first original piece of art work. A very nice surprise.

Nice story, thank you for sharing it! :D

And it's good to hear that your sons share your interest for that ronin rabbit; I only hope they don't fight for ownership of that special issue, or you'll have to buy yet a third set of the issues....

I forgot to mention one of the lots contained several issues from Enigma the Dutch publication of Usagi. I was very impressed with the quality, they use heavy card stock and glossy covers. If you haven't seen them before you have to check out the back covers in the cover gallery under foreign publications (Dutch). There is some very cool, funny and whimsical art on the back of every issue.
