Usagi Yojimbo DojoBoard

Hello All.

I am new to Usagi Yojimbo collecting although I have been reading the comic for a year or so now. My kiddos and I love it.

I have bought a few graded early issues (no Albedo 2, though ) and I would like to purchase one of the two original silkscreen runs for our house.

If anyone has one available to sell, please feel free to PM me or respond to this post.

Just had to post a quick follow up to my original post. I located a gentleman nearby who said that he had #151/200 of the original 1988 print. I met with him this afternoon and not only is it an original print, it was still in the original Fantagraphics Book, INC. shipping tube with the post mark on the tube from 9 NOV 1988. It looks like it has never been out of the tube. Gentleman said his Dad bought it in 1988 and gave it to him. I bought it (and the original tube) from him and I am now going to get it framed but will hang onto the tube as well as it is so cool. Anyways, thought that it was a cool story to share here where others might appreciate it.

Holy cow framing is not cheap these days, eh???

I took my Kim Jung Gi print and my Sakai "Blue Moon" print to a print shop and asked for a quote and for the two of them it was going to be over $400! Maybe that is normal but it seemed expensive to me. I did ask for the quote to include acid free paper and UV glass but that still seems steep. Only one matt and a basic, plain black frame.

What do you all think?

Don't know about large prints, but I've had smaller ones (13x10 inch) done for about $70 at Aaron Brothers.
Didn't include frames which I bought during their 1 cent sale.

Yeah, this was a private place and seemed a bit much. I'll try a larger, more commercial place this weekend. I expect to pay a bit over $100 but not over $200 dollars for each. Thanks for the reply!

Aaron Brothers often has 40-50% off custom framing coupons on their website, for what it's worth. I've had some original art framed at a small shop and I think it ran me ~$150 for a double matte, custom frame, and anti-glare/reflection glass on my 11" x17" piece.

The place yesterday wanted to charge me a bit over $200 for the 11 x 17 piece. I will check around. Just back from Michaels. Total for the two prints will be exactly $250 which is soooo much better than over $400, but of course, the %50 off coupon was the saving grace.

Really cool thing was, though, that the guy running the framing shop section was nice and helping me and when he said "Let's see what you got" he almost died when I pulled out the "Blue Moon" 1988 print and he Kim Jung Gi print. Turns out he is a huge Usagi fan and was so psyched to see and handle them. Great to know that I left them in good hands to be framed!

Also while I was there a guy was picking up an original Japanese flag from WWII that his Grandfather had brought back after the war. Gave me shivers to see it when they brought it out for the man. I had two Uncles who fought and island hopped all through the South Pacific with the Army in WWII and to see an original flag with all the Japanese characters written all over it, was truly an amazing experience.

Quick further update on the prints. Just got a call from Michaels, not to say that the prints were ready, but from a guy who works in the framing section and who saw the prints. He asked if I would mind talking about them. Said he was a huge Anime fan and that he had never seen this character but LOVED the prints and had to know more, so he found the owner info on the receipt and decided to call me to talk about them. So we spoke for around 20 minutes about all things awesomely Usagi and Sakai and by the time I finished, he was already trying to buy the first paperback volume of the first issues online while at work. Stan, your work truly speaks for itself!

And the prints might be ready by tomorrow night! Too cool!
