Also WTB: ALBEDO 2 (RAW OR GRADED)

Post by Gaffey »

Hey, it worked for Unarce so why not try myself. :P I like the CBCS that's on eBay right now, but I'm not sure how they came up with a NM+ grade with this white corner. Higher grade/more money. Does anyone else think a NM+ comic should not have white chipping on the corner?

I noticed that, too. I know that in general, grading companies cut more slack with older books, but even on something as unforgiving as an Albedo 2, it's a bit odd. I'd make a best offer if it was CGC. I'm not saying CBCS grading is not on par with CGC. It's just that the market value wouldn't nearly equate to a CGC 9.6.

Another issue with the CBCS book is that you would have to have them at the same convention as Stan to authentic his signature. Otherwise CGC would slap a green "QUALIFIED LABEL" on the book stating the Steve Gallacci signature on the interior cover was not authenticated/witnessed even though Stan's was. Plus I'm pretty sure CGC would drop that grade a bit. That's why in a perfect world I'll find a really nice raw copy without having to pay the slabbed premium.

That would be the best way to go. I'm not a fan of CBCS's red-label or CGC's green label, either.

I guess these books aren't as rare as I thought. Last month there were 2 graded 9.8 in the CGC Census and now there are 10!

Looks like someone has been hoarding them. Just makes my chances of getting a nice non slabbed version that much tougher.

Maybe Stan is selling all the ones that he had in storage?

It's not me. The last one I sold was a couple years ago, through Heritage Auctions.

Heh, I was going to joke that Stan had gotten all of his copies graded too...!
