Is it the 1st appearance of Usagi Yojimbo or the 1st appearance of Miyamoto Usagi?
And who is Don Thompson? I'm not familiar with that person.
Yes. This is the 1st appearance of both (same rabbit).
The Don Thompson I know was the co-editor of the Comics Buyers Guide, a weekly newspaper on comics. Before the Internet took off and ebay existed, the classified in the CBG was one way to get rare comics that weren't available in you LCBS or if you didn't have a car or way to go to comic book conventions. I liked the CBG. Good columns from Peter David and Tony Isabella. Peace, Maka

Has Stan ever called him Usagi Yojimbo? That was my point. When the TMNT came over to Usagi's world did he say, "Hello, my name is USAGI YOJIMBO"
I suppose I could just grab the book off the shelf and look for myself.
Anyway, that's strange that Mr. Thompson would get a mention on the label. At least to me it is. When I did a quick google search I came up with the McDonald's Executive that got fired/retired and figured it wasn't him. Thanks for the info.
My only problem with PGX graded books is that in the past they seemed to miss some restorations and torn/missing parts of pages when grading. I have no idea if that is still the case. I'd hate to crack it open after spending $$$ and find that the cover was touched up with a black marker or something like. Then you'd be stuck with a restored book that you didn't want or pay for. It will probably go for way more than I can/want to pay anyway.
I'd have gambled at $1k, and get it re-slabbed by CGC. Best case scenario is a green label. I just think there's too much risk of it coming back purple labelled.
When you look right above the top staple you can see a giant smudge. I wonder it that's on the book or the case? I was hoping to get one for my birthday, but that didn't happen.
I want to bid on this so bad. I'm sure VISA wouldn't mind either. I just don't want to crack it open and be disappointed about what I just spent $1300+ on. This is what happens when it's raining outside and you don't have anything to do....
It doesn't even say when/where the signature was witnessed. Of course it looks like Stan's auto, but who knows.
I'M JUST TRYING TO CONVINCE MYSELF NOT TO BID. FEEL FREE TO IGNORE MY POSTS.
