Cosplay

Post by Colonel_Usagi »

Hello all,

There is not a cosplay section so I figured this would be the appropriate place since you have to be pretty artictic in sewing a costume from scratch. At least I hope so ;)

I started cosplaying Usagi last year at dragon con 2005. The hardest part was finding the right materials for the costume. And of course the sewing. I carry wooden bokkens so I can walk without being hassled too much. The smaller one I found in the woods broken. I cut, sanded and varnished it to make it my tanto. My wife puts my hair in a topknot and we stick rabbit ears in it. People seem to really enjoy the costume by the way pictures are usually taken when I wear the costume. I cosplay Usagi when ever I can for cons and comic book stores. Here is a picture we took before O-Conn.

From the Older fans I hear "Hey!!! Its Usagi Yojimbo!!" From the younger Fans I hear " HEY!!! Its the Rabbit from Ninja Turtles!!" Its nice to see the eyes of the younger fans when I tell them there are Usagi Yojimbo comics they can read. I have been referring them to this site.

Thank You
Colonel Usagi

Cool outfit / costume, even though I couldn't see the ears too well in the photo. A page for the Dojo showcasing fans in their cosplay costumes is a great idea. I know there is a least one picture from last year of someone dressed as a great Tomoe Ame.

Thanks for sharing, and a slightly late "welcome to the Dojo"

Abayo....

That is so cool, that you took time and effort into your cosplaying outfit :D

I like it!

I don't suppose we'd be lucky enough to see you wearing that at San D Con this year?

Thank you all the WONDERFUL compliments. :)
I just about died when I saw Stan Sakai himself post. I am still shivering. ;)

As for San D Con I am afraid we can only make one major con trip per year. :) We will be going to Dragon-Con again this year. Hopefully I will have Usagi's battle armor sewn and ready by then. I will post pics when it is done. :)

Here's what I did with my fursuit at the largest german anime-convention:

I made everything myself. Most people didn't know Usagi. A comic dealer gave me free sample to show around - I hope this helped his sales.

It was on of the hottest days of the year. I stayed over 4 hours in costume.
