Usagi sketch

Post by Inkthinker »

Little something I did in Manga Studio EX and Photoshop... it began as a kimono study, it ended up as an Usagi homage.

Image

Love drawing these characters... think I might do a Gennosuke sketch next time.

sketch-only version without color or BG

Last time I did one of these, someone mentioned submitting for the letters page of the comic or something... how would I go about doing that, then? If it's a matter of it not being shown anywhere else, I'd happily do up a fresh one.

Saw the 100th issue in Previews... great milestone! I can't wait to check it out, and read 100 more.

:D

Hey Ben,
Always great seeing a new Usagi picture from you.

You can either send a hard copy by mail to:

USAGI LETTERS
C/O DARK HORSE COMICS
10956 SE MAIN STREET
MILWAUKIE, OR 97222

or email a copy to:

dianas@darkhorse.com

Nate's "Usagi and Horse" picture was published recently on the letter-page of Usagi Yojimbo after originally being shown on this forum (and a couple others, as well), so it is not a die hard rule that it must be an unseen piece of art. So there still is hope for your "Slice" drawing, if you send it in, or any other art you want to share. 8)

Abayo....

I could email a link to a hires version easily enough... what would the preferred file specifications be? This is pretty big, so I can easily set it up to be... well, whatever, really.

That is something I can't give a specific answer on, being a computer novice myself and not knowing that much about file formats as relating to print quality, etc.

For something published on the letter page, it would be printed in b/w, and I assume that anything designed for color reproduction would have to be set up for the color printing process, designed or formatted for color seperations, etc.

The best bet would be send an email or letter and include the art in a decent format and at a relatively high resolution. Be sure to give them contact info if there is any modification or format problems. Or print out a decent image and send it in. :D

Be sure to let us all know what ever you find out in case any other artistically minded fans want to send in something.

A high quality, greyscale JPG at a res of 300 should work fine. As Steve said, you can include an e-mail incase they want to ask you for another type, but I can't imagine it really being an issue.

Nice kimono study, btw! Love the way the fabric pulls.
