I am entering an art contest in September and decided to draw monsters. Two of my favorite monsters are the tentacles that Mr. Sakai draws and the Kappa from Vol.1 Issue 6.
SO, those will be the focal point and then various blue monsters painted into the background. But for now, it's just an ink sketch:
Thoughts?

Ha, I like that, it's weird head, it's very unique for sure! Those tentacles and the Kappa's feet strike me too, Have you ever heard of Brain Froud?
He's a fantasy painter who did all the designs on the Jim Henson movies "Labyrinth" and "The Dark Crystal"
Your drawing there reminds me of his love for the bizarre proportion and bizarre props. Granted I know about the cucumbers and Kappa's, but anyone else who doesn't should be mystified by them.
You get my vote! I think it's great, as far as tentacles and cucumbers go~

Yes! Brian Froud is such a talented artist. For a while there people were talking about a Dark Crystal sequel and some of his new design pieces was around. My characters are usually a little out of proportion though, yeah.
Thanks for the vote!

I don't know if they're out of proportion, it's more like a super proportion or something. Like Megaman legs, or popeye arms, or Will Smith ears. They make the character, knowhutImean?

This is a painted version for an art contest. The picture is a lot darker than I thought it would be. Feedback appreciated!

Super COOL!!

Sorry, it's been a while since that contest but....
My Kappa painting was bought at auction for $150 (to hang in a local bar). It did not win the Grand Prize ($3,000) but it did make it to the third round where it was defeated by the finalist.
I wanted to say THANK YOU for your votes and support. I keep selling paintings of this type so I think I found my niche. I am currently working on a piece depicting a zombie invasion in an arcade.
I'll post pics if anyone is interested.

Comic Book Kappa

Heya Dojo, it's been a while but I thought I would share here first.
I finished up a comic book submission that I am sending to small publishers due to the nature of the material I want to get out, but also because I feel like my work might just fit in with the other oddities rather then at Marvel etc. I am looking for feedback if anyone has time or cares to check it out.
In this comic there are three stories. Two are ongoing and the third is a one-shot. This is Issue #1 and I am currently ordering proofs on Lulu so I at least have a basic copyright.
If you would like to take a look you will find the entire comic at O-File (

I work with rough kids so I like my feedback "down and dirty". Let me know:
Do the stories make sense?
Spelling mistakes?
Is the artwork any good?
Do the panels flow in a logical way?
Anything confusing?
What's god, bad, ugly?
