Thank you, but don't worry about that. My sentence was not a wish, it was a hint at something to come soon. ;)
Another hint: My name is not Simone.
Ah, cool. I look forward to seeing what it is.

I love Calvin and Hobbes, and to own original art from it would be incredible (especially one of the Tracer Bullet stories - those are some of my favorites). Unfortunately, that is also on my list of art I’ll likely never get (I haven’t seen the prices for Calvin and Hobbes art, but I’d imagine they’re pretty high).
Between 50K and 200K, roughly. Scott Williams, the inker who works regularly with Jim Lee (and plenty others) has a very nice one:

Wow! That's a lot!

But nice collection indeed.
The hosting is fine. The UY Dojo doesn't scale large images very well if you're viewing on a mobile device (phone or tablet). The pictures show up on a laptop or desktop screen. I suppose I could downsize all the pictures, but I just used the ones that I had previously uploaded.

When I first saw it I immediately went to the Gallery to see if it was for sale. I should have read the entire blog post first.
Nothing is mine yet, so you will have to wait a few days for the answer to that question. ;)

Ah, weird. I'm on a laptop, and my screen is larger than the pictures, but the right part is cropped for some reason.

It's great to see and read about everyone's collections and collecting habits and styles.

Kyle, you've got some fantastic pieces and in such a short time too! I really like the Princess Mononoke piece by Rob Duenas! :D
(BTW, I'm having troubles with the Odagawa and the Limberger/Sison pieces too - maybe it's a browser issue? I'm using Chrome on my desktop)
jabba359 wrote:Most of them live in an Itoya art portfolio, so they're easy to remove.
Oh, I like those.... I'll have to look for them.
Eltanin wrote:Maichan, I think I already said it, but I absolutely love your 4 seasons commissions, they make a nice set together. I wish I could have similar ideas for having themed set of commissions, but my mind is not good at this.
Thanks Eltanin, but my mind isn't too good at such things either. But the seasons idea seemed easy. I'm sure you can come up with something - Usagi with certain characters, specific locations, situations, anything your imagination can come up with.

Thanks for letting me know. They looked fine on my desktop (Win 7/Chrome), but I pulled out my Macbook and they were getting cut off (in both Chrome and Safari). I went ahead and re-sized them all to 600 pixels wide and that seems to have solved the issue (they even appear to be mobile device safe now).

You can find them in Michaels Arts and Crafts stores. My local store usually carries 9"x12", 11"x17", 11"x14" and 14"x17". I think they carry one or two other sizes. If you use Michaels 50% off coupons it's a pretty good deal.

Here's the Premier Dealer list.

Here is the sketch I won during the Daisy Kutter The Last Train reprint Kickstarter by Kazu Kibuishi. Based on the copper comics that I love. Copper and Fred. Image

The first piece of original art I bought (on eBay):

Image
Denys Cowan's The Question issue 14, page 25. The comic I collected when I went to college and discovered a comic book store in Hawaiian Gardens.

"For those of you that collect original art - what kind of pieces do you look for? Are there any specific artists you collect pieces from? Commission type pieces, interior pages, or covers? Do you have any “grail pages” you’d like to get someday?"

My main collection is a sketchbook of self-protraits that I take to comic book signings and comic conventions.

I have stopped buying original art for the most part. I already have more than I can hang up and they typically cost too much for my budget these days. I might pay for a commission if it isn't too much or I want to add an artist to my self-portrait sketchbook. I try to get artists who comics I love reading. My holy grails are the two Stan Sakai pages in my gallery. So I am satisfied.

I want to get a self-portrait of Stan with his beard next for my sketchbook. :). And Julie, if she is willing.

Peace, maka

How do you store your pieces? In a portfolio, or hung up on the wall?
I ordered a portfolio yesterday, so I'll be taking my pieces down from the wall soon.

I keep the small pieces in 8 1/2" x 11" Itoya Art Profolio. The Chris Schweizer Art, I keep in the poster tube. The other comic art is in the envelopes/packages they came in. The 20th UY anniversary is hanging in my room in my house. And I have an Usagi 100 issue poster hanging in my office. I used to have an Usagi 15 years anniversary poster hanging in my garage, but time and my clumsiness was not kind to it and it no longer exists.

I do want to get the Senso piece framed and on a wall in my room. The other comic art work would be nice to frame sequentially but I don't think Cheryl would approve of me taking up so much wall space. That's another reason I am not buying art now days. I rather see it up and enjoying it than in a closet where I don't get to enjoy it often.

Peace, maka

Huzzah! A new piece just arrived a few minutes ago. It's one of my art "grails", so I'm very excited. I'll post a picture later. :D

The piece I got yesterday was Get the Lobster #5, page 6 by Tonci Zonjic. This page is one of my all-time favorites, and it is my art "grail". I'm very excited to have this piece. (Look closely at the page and you'll see my avatar).
I also received my portfolio yesterday, so I've moved all my art into it. It really is a nice way to display art, and it looks much better than my old system of displaying art. The portfolio is 13" x 19" and my art is about 11 and 1/2" x 17 and 1/2" so the art slides around a bit, but it's not a big deal. I quite like the portfolio.
