Russ Manning Award
Mouse Guard creator and frequent Dojo poster David Petersen is one of the nominees for the Russ Manning most promising newcomer award. It will be given at the San Diego Con, usually just before the Eisners.

That is actually a good question because this expression does not strike me as correct. People used to say "lead-pipe cinch" to refer to a sure thing. Something that was almost certain to occur.Thomas Froehling wrote:What is a "lead-pipe lock" ??
You can also say that something is a "lock" to indicate it is certain to happen. "Lock" and "cinch" have their own usual meanings which you can look up yourself.
So that expression should have been "lead-pipe cinch" or "a lock." Perhaps by combining them the speaker is indicating extreme confidence, but it also causes confusion.
