One Laptop Per Child

Post by Maka »

Hello UYD,

Okay, I'm a nerd for thinking this is the coolest thing ever.

This was supposed to be the $100 (now close to $200) laptop for children in poor countries. The computer is waterproof, dirt proof, drop proof, has a battery that last 6 hours (and can be recharged 2000 with a solar panel), has wifi, a built in camera, built in word processor, 3 music programs, a painter program and a book reader and more. For the target population it's brilliant tool. These computers can interact with each other (so if a child is creating music on their computer, a classmate can add their drum beat from their computer. Amazing).

An in November, for two weeks, it will be available to Americans with the Give one, Get one program (Buy two - one goes to a child in a poor country, and one get to your child). You even get a tax write-off while doing something for a child in a poor country.
