Dino Daze

Post by Andy »

This isn't really one of the challenges, but it is my latest drawing -- and the project it advertises is why I have had difficulty finding time to make comics lately!

Every year I help organize a Family Fun Night and Art Show at the elementary school where I teach. This year the theme is "Dinosaurs". Here's a poster I drew to advertise the event.

Want to hear something cool?

As we have been learning about dinosaurs and making dino inspired art, I've been introducing my students to the Dinotopia books by James Gurney. I highly recommend his books, his website, http://www.dinotopia.com and his blog, Gurney's Journey.

I have several of his books and I got a 2008 calendar just to cut up and post scenes on my bulletin board. I thought though, wouldn't it be neat to have a really big one to show my students. I emailed his website store in hopes they might have a poster they would be willing to donate.

Well, I heard from Mr. Gurney himself! He was excited about our project, and he sent a signed limitted edition print and a sketch to "Mr. Wales and the students at Lynch-Bustin"!

You know, I've noticed over the years that often the most successful people are also the nicest guys -- like Stan, of course!

If you want to see more of our Dino Daze project, I've started a blog just for that at http://www.dinodaze.blogspot.com/
