Hello UYD,

I finally picked up my UY#110 last Friday. Very enjoyable. Thanks!

While there I made an impulse buy - I picked up the graphic novel "American Born Chinese." I remember reading about it here.

I loved this GN. It mixes three stories (Monkey King, Jr. High Kid trying to fit in, and a high school sit-com involving an ugly stereotypical Chinese cousin) and ties them all together. I thought it was a great take on how human beings just want to fit in and be accepted. But how difficult that is during adolescents. Nicely illustrated and great storytelling. I highly recommend it.

Here's Mr. Yang's wiki bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Yang

Peace, maka

I've seen this book several times at Barnes and Noble but each time, after flipping through it, never bought it. Perhaps I will give it a chance and buy it.

Thanks for the reommendation.

It is an excellent graphic novel. Gene gave me a copy at the last San Diego Con. I have known the colorist Lark Pien for years, and she is one of the artist that I collect. She is one of my first stops at San Diego, where I pick up a couple of her small paintings.
