Has anyone seen Kung Fu Panda? It looks fun, and the general word on it seems to be pretty good, so I might catch it this weekend.

Jerry Beck says to stick around until after the end credits for an extra scene:

I had friends that worked on Kung Fu Panda. I saw it this afternoon and it is a great movie! This is exactly the look that I envisioned for an Usagi movie. Everyone should check it out. Great family pic.

I enjoyed it too. I particularly liked the 2-D animation at the beginning. If someone could make a UY movie that looked something like that, it would probably be my new favorite movie.

I enjoyed this scene a lot, it's almost like something out of one of the great Hong Kong kung fu movies:

BTW, that extra scene after the end credits is nothing that spectacular, but you should stick around anyway since the artwork during the end credits is beautiful (strangely enough, about 99% of everyone in the theater headed for the exits the moment that the end credits came up.).

This movie rocked on all levels! I loved all the styles they used-- the 2-d stuff (I had nostalgic feelings for Samurai Jack), the computer stuff, and the stills during the credits-- and YES, I stayed for the very end, and I LOVED it!!!!

I have a three year old who's going to be four in a month. I head today that the movie was kind of rough for the little ones, is that true? I really want to see this with him and need to assure my wife of its wholesomeness. :)

The violence in it is fairly cartoony, but I don't think that I would be comfortable taking a 4-year-old to it. I'd say that the violence level is about on par with a typical Jackie Chan movie (but not on the level of Police Story or Drunken Master II or any of the movies where the fights really look painful). It's nothing that pushes the PG envelope too much, but if you're worried at all about your child imitating fight scenes in movies, you might want to wait a few years before letting them see it.

Thanks for the heads up; however, I'm kinda pouting on the inside for having to wait myself.

As far as I can remember, I don't think there is anything that a four year old shouldn't see.

The fights are cartoony violence (meaning no blood, mostly hits to the head or belly).
And actually there aren't that many fights to begin with.

There is a scene where the bad guy is escaping from a prison. It MAY be considered scary since it is in a cave like setting and dark, but I don't think so.

Overall, I don't remember anything unfit for a child. I already recommended it to a friend with a five year old, they loved it boy and father alike.

I've been waiting on this movie for two years, since I read an interview with Jack Black saying Stephen Chow will be in it. IS he in it, or did the character Jackie Chan plays take his place?

I'm a complete dork-fan for this guy. I loved Shaolin Soccer and Kung-fu Hustle.

I think you are right about that. But don't fear. I think he is signed on for the Green Hornet film :P

My family saw it on Friday. Cheryl took the girls to see it in the afternoon. Then they ate at Panda Express for dinner.

They enjoyed it so much, they offered to see it again with me that night. I'm no fool, so I said yes. My endorsement: It was worth my hard earned cash. Girls age 6 & 9 loved it. The 6 year old said some parts were scary but not "too scary."

In other panda news: my family bought me Jon J Muth's follow up to Zen Shorts - "Zen Ties" for father's day. http://www.amazon.com/Zen-Ties-Jon-J-Muth/dp/0439634253 It was a wonderful way to start the summer.

Peace, maka

I just saw it yesterday and I must say I absolutely loved it. I caught myself smiling through out the film. It was funny, not the typical Dreamworks pop culture fart jokes that aren't really funny, this movie was laugh out loud funny. The film visually is stunning, and the animation is just beautiful, I mean, the fight scenes were amazing, the village and landscapes were beautiful. This film no doubt is a serious contender for best animated feature at the Oscars.

One thing I kept thinking though during the film. If this movie is so well liked and is so good and doing well, I think a Usagi movie would do well as well. I know this has been discussed here before, but I think this film proves that audiences would sit for a film like this.

Kung Fu Panda is a great film, if you haven't seen it yet, check it out. And for those friends or relatives who have seen it and would like more works like that, loan them a Usagi trade. I think they both compliment each other very well.
