And what did you think of it? I myself enjoyed it, but it could have been better. What did you all think of the ending being changed? I thought it worked but I question why they decided to change it....

I thought it was as good an adaptation that one could hope for, barring a 12 episode mini-series.

I had no problem with changing the giant squid monster as it would have taken way to long to explain. But Bubastis's completed unexplained presence was odd.

The synopsis sounds stupid...and that's the reason i don't wanna see it, I was in cinema today and i choosed La Fille de Monaco (very good french film)

I liked it. A lot. It was a very solid adaptation of something that was long thought to be unfilmable. Though, I think the faithfulness to the source material was largely visual. Thematically, I think they kinda dropped the ball at times in favor of splashy, computer-generated violence; a trap most superhero movies fall into. But considering the director, I wasn't too surprised. In fact, if he hadn't gone in that direction, I think I would've been disappointed.

Favorite moments:

The opening titles. An absolutely brilliant montage set to "The Times They Are A-Changin'" by Bob Dylan. And some stark revelations about the characters in a short few minutes. Very well done!

The use of music in general. Especially "Sound of Silence" during The Comedian's funeral.

Jackie Earl Haley as Rorschach. Smart casting!

Stuff I didn't like so much:

Matthew Goode as Ozymandias. If I hadn't read the book, I wouldn't have known what the hell this guy was saying. He was trying a "smug" delivery, but it came out as "drunk." Also, the left out "I DID IT!" I was kinda waiting for that!

Nite Owl and Silk Spectre's love scene. Not because I'm a prude, but because it was seriously the cheesiest love scene in cinema history, with the most obvious use of sexual imagery ever. Being a family site, I won't go into detail, but man. Subtlety is not Zach Snyder's strong point. Also, Leonard Cohen? Really?

And that's about it. All in all, a strong film I would highly recommend.

Oh, one more thing: movies have ratings for a reason, and this one is rated R. Meaning it's probably not a good idea to bring your five-year-old. It will make for one seriously awkward car ride home, I'll bet. Hire a sitter for cryin' out loud.

I haven't seen it yet, but my son who's 17 said that he and his friends weren't crazy about it. For one, if you haven't read the book, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Secondly, as Dan put it, "We didn't really appreciate having to look at Dr. Manhattan's 'junk' through the whole movie."

I saw it on Sunday. It was pretty good, it was very interesting and did a splendid job of transferring the graphic novel to the screen. But, there were some flaws, such as the cheesy love scene and the fact that Dr. Manhatten's lower parts kind of ruin the whole experience. It was pretty good, though.

Saw it yesterday, liked it but did not love it. So I guess that would make it about a 7 to 7.5 out of 10 for me. I might see it again anyway though just because of how much I love the source material. Most of the changes I was okay with except for the tweaks at the tail end, particularly the loss of the final Ozy/Manhattan moment.

I saw it last night, and overall, I have to say that I didn't like it that much. I wouldn't say that it was a total disaster, and there were a few sequences I liked such as the opening credits sequence, but it was one of those movies that sort of left me thinking, "who exactly was this made for?" As for music choices, I liked the one of the Philip Glass pieces used during the Dr. Manhattan flashback, but overall, most of the music choices felt a little too "on the nose."

It's hard for me to point to any one thing that ruined it for me; the whole thing just seemed a little "flat" overall. One problem with adapting Watchmen in the first place is that the book depends so much on the way that it's told, and that's something that mostly gets stripped away in the movie.

Not a terrible movie, but I think that it's an example of how not every book needs a movie adaptation.

I think the movie's major flaw is that it tries to cater to both the Serious Fans of the original comic and the usual Superhero Movie crowd. It tried to have it both ways, but you really end up diminishing the more serious aspects of the story (distrust of those in authority, absolute power corrupting absolutely) when you try to put in super-gory, over-the-top (like Stallone) action sequences.

Now that's not to say I didn't like it, because I certainly did. But that was the one thing that bugged me the most.

That, and all the swag that's popping up everywhere I look. Nothing says "question authority" like a Rorschach Lunchbox.

Another weird thing I find is that most of the people complaining about Dr. Manhattan's nudity are guys. To which I say: grow up. It's nothing you haven't seen every day of your life. Get over it.
