hey everyone,
my question is about can a girl get the name joey. io know there is alot of boys and girls names that could mean it could be a he/she. but i never heard of a girl name joey. the reason i ask is because i went to this form and check out the topic about the seven samurai thing. and i went to mainchi daily news. and went to personals and post an ad. and a girl name joey relpy to my message. i was surprise first i check babynames.com and it saids there are girls name joey. but i was wounding if it's american or a different country. i never heard of an american girl name joey. i hadn't got a relpy back from her yet. i don't know if she is in the same town as me or in asia. all i got is her e-mail address and i try looking for places to find out more about her but she has nothing on her msn proifle. her e-mail address is hotmail. does anyone know any sites where i can find out more about her. thank you for your time.

Joey Lauren Adams... famous actress from the Kevin Smith films and Married With Children, among many others. Do a web search, you might recognize her.

Well personally i dont think joey is a girls name. But you can name your child anythign you want, there isnt much stopping you, so its all up to the parents.

If she (assuming, of course 8) ) is in fact Japanese, there's other possibilities as well:
1) Mis-transcription of a Japanese name (although I didn't find any likely candidates here)
2) She's chosen a Western name to be know as by non-Japanese people and:
a) misspelled "Joy"
b) thought "Joey" sounded nice and was a little shaky on Western naming practices (I knew a guy from Hong Kong who chose to be called "Bambi"-- the deer in the movie was male, right?); even though it's not an unknown name for women-- Joey Heatherington-- it is uncommon.

It's probably a nickname, chief. However, a knee-jerk reaction of suspecting it to be male is a good instinct to have when using the interweb as a means of starting relationships. Regardless of what they call themselves, there's still a good chance that anyone you communicate with is a hairy, three hundred pound, thirty year-old white dude, who lives in his mom's basement somewhere in Nebraska. The interweb is a wonderful thing!

Also remember that baby kangaroos are called "joeys", male or female...

I sense a trend-- perhaps an upcoming revelation that the correspondant is in fact a massively overweight albino cave-dwelling marsuipial that spends entirely too much money on eBay to get Babylon 5 memorabilia

I'd have said "Star Trek", but it's been done to death...

Kind of reminds me when I corresponded with someone a while back...
I thought the name was feminine (incorrectly) because of the similarity with a name from Usagi Yojimbo... Tora Ami, translates as Tiger Rain if I remember correctly. Tora sounds like a feminine name in English...
