Prometheus

Post by Ben »

Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE film. Don't waste your money on a ticket; neither 20th Century Fox or Ridley Scott deserve it.

Of course, other opinions are available, as they say.

One critic whose opinions I generally trust liked it with some reservations. Without any very big spoilers, this review may give you some idea of whether or not you want to see this movie (I do):

Another positive-with-reservations review that may give you some idea of whether or not you'll like this movie:

I haven't read any other reviews yet but I felt Ben's review was one of the most honest reviews I have ever read. And it made me laugh. Thanks for that.

Peace, maka

Just got back from the midnight showing, I actually liked it. It was well paced for the most part, although I did get a few instances of "numb-butt anxiousness" when it was a bit slow in the middle, but it picked right up.The writing wasn't quite as "deep" as I'm used to with Ridley Scott films and it felt more like an "action flick" than a "sci-fi thriller" (ie: more like Aliens than Alien), but I the run time of ~2hrs probably contributed to that (Scott films are usually pushing that 3hr boundary). I'm assuming this one will have quite a "Director's Cut" when it hits the home market. It won't blow your mind or amaze you or anything like that, but I found it a very passable summer release movie.

Actually, Ridley Scott is saying that there won't be one, but I wouldn't entirely put it past him to change his mind about that at some point.

I saw the movie a couple of nights ago. I can understand where some of the complaints about it are coming from, but I still enjoyed it.

I just came across a fun review in comic form by Faith Erin Hicks, which is my favorite review of this movie so far (I'd love to see more of these):

Hmm, now it appears that there will be a longer cut on Blu-Ray/DVD; I don't expect it to turn the movie into a masterpiece, but I do think a longer cut could fix a few of the movie's problems.

thank you jet_jaguar for the link, I enjoyed the short interview very much and cannot wait to see prometheus myself!;)I LOVE the poster artwork that was next to the video, think I will buy that one day.blade runner two sounds fantastic, too;)it's so great I think to use the opportunity to dip in and fantasize about what COULD possibly be in those next movies(like blade runner and prometheus sequels for example), it's the same with any type of story or music album or anything like that..in germany we have a saying about this, it goes: vorfreude ist die beste freude...which means the joy you are experiencing before something ia happening is the best of joy,)
thanks again, amigo!

Funny how people differ. I feel the complete opposite of you. I enjoyed the film, and frankly, have thought about going to see it with another friend (who's also been a lifelong Ridley Scott & Aliens fan).
