FCBD 2014

Post by Jet_Jaguar »

Which Free Comic Book Day titles are you looking forward to this year?

I particularly hope to be able to find a copy of this since it includes a story by Sergio Aragones and the Groo team:

Not sure if this is a preview of the first volume of Showa (which I already have) or the forthcoming second volume, but I think it's cool that this will be part of FCBD in any case:

It's been a while since I've managed to get any FCBD stuff, I missed it two years ago due to being out of the country (well worth it), and I missed it last year because I got to the store I usually go to for FCBD stuff kind of late and most of it was gone. :(

Hope everyone else is having a nice FCBD! What did everyone else get? Here's what I got:

Defend Comics (had to go to more than one comic store to find this, get one if you see it, it includes stories by the Groo team and other good stuff)
Mouse Guard/Archaia (hardcover!)
Bongo Comics
Hip Hop Family Tree
Buck Rogers
Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck
Atomic Robo
Avatar: The Last Airbender (With an ad for all-ages comics on the back including UY!)
All You Need is Kill/Terra Formars (Viz)
2000 AD

I wanted to get something for my nearly 3 year old nephew, but I didn't really see anything quite on his reading level. Maybe next year.

The local comic shop had a three comic limit in effect, same as previous years, but this year they also let everyone have one of the Mouse Guard books on top of their three comics. They also allowed an additional comic from a group of four titles, but none of them caught my interest.

Beside the Mouse Guard book, I picked the Bongo FCBD issue, the Defend Comics issue, and the Comic Book Marketplace issue with the Billy Tucci / Shi 20th anniversary article.

Just Mouse Guard, but some of my haunts didn't get it, I think it must have been way oversubscribed.

If you weren't able to find a hard copy of this year's FCBD Mouse Guard story (there was just one left at the store I got it from), you can read it here:

I worked all day as a volunteer at a car show here in So Cal, so I missed FCBD.
So, I was pleasantly surprised on Wednesday when I visited my local shop and they had a couple of books for me - the Avatar The Last Airbender issue with an Itty Bitty Hellboy story, AND best of all, the Archaia Mouse Guard issue.
I was completely surprised by both, but especially the Mouse Guard.
I guess sometimes being a long time customer has it's benefits, even if I've really cut back on my books.
That said, I want to give a big round of THANKS and a plug for Mark, Elaine & Denise at Comics Unlimited in Westminster, CA! :P ~ Thanks guy & gals!
