I think Tartakovsky's Popeye feature will probably be fun based on this bit of test footage (not crazy about Popeye's voice, but this is all just temp stuff, I'm hoping Billy West will be Popeye's voice in the finished film):

Re: Genndy Tartakovsky's POPEYE Animation Test
I was nervous about the project (it's been gestating for several years at this point) but Tartakovsky has completely won me over with that footage. I don't mind them keeping that voice actor - it's Tom (Spongebob, Ice King) Kenny.

^Meanwhile, Jerry Beck's site says the movie isn't cancelled, just that Tartakovsky has moved on to developing one of his original ideas (which was supposed to be made after Popeye) as his next movie.

I guess the chaos at Sony is to blame, but King Features (owners of Popeye) and producer Avi Arad (who secured the rights) are dead-set on making a movie, but I suppose we're back to square one and the movie is now that much further away.
