Thankful for this Dojo and you!
Dear Dojo,
Today is Thanksgiving in America. It's not a perfect holiday but is pretty good because:
1. It's focuses on family.
2. It isn't too commercialized.
3. It's centers around food.
4. It's asks us to reflect on what we are thankful for.
In that spirit, I'm thankful for all your wonderful gents and women in this Dojo. This is one of the places on the wide world web that I come to almost every day. I like the respectful way we treat each other here. We can talk about as many nerdy things that we are interested us. And that is accepted and people appreciate that passion in us. I like how people volunteer to help others out here. I like how people ask for help. I like how people sometimes share what is going on in their lives. I like how people wish each other happy birthday. I like how people are happy for others here. I like how we appreciate great storytelling, art, travel, and food. It's like we are pen pals kinda. Of course, I like it when Stan comments on people post or we get some insight about his life before everyone else does on Facebook. It is a fun and respectful and kind place.
Many years ago, Stan used to say about this Dojo that someone life was saved here because of this dojo. I don't know that story's details but I do think that caring community is still very much alive today. Thank you to all of you for being here. It doesn't matter if you post a lot or just come here are read what others post. This is a great place that makes my life better. I get a kick out of each one of you. I hope you have a wonderful day and have time to spend with your love ones.
Peace, maka

To me, this is what makes a community. Even though many of us are in many different parts of the world, we're willing to help others even though we've never met them sometimes! There are still some folks on here I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet. Maybe one day.Maka wrote:I like how people volunteer to help others out here. I like how people ask for help. Re: Thankful for this Dojo and you!
Well said Maka. I couldn't agree with you more.
There is a certain camaraderie here at the dojo, that you don't always find in other forums.
And I agree with go regarding thanks to Sensei Saki for bringing us Usagi for all these years, and hopefully many more to come.
Last week was Labor Thanksgiving Day in Japan (Kinrō Kansha no Hi), a national holiday which takes place annually on November 23. According to Wikipedia, Labor Thanksgiving Day is the modern name for an ancient harvest festival known as Niiname-sai with it's origins possibly dating back to as far as 660 BC. It seems people throughout the world have celebrated some form of "thanksgiving" for a long time. So I think it is appropriate to send Thanksgiving wishes to all our members across the globe.
To paraphrase Maka, Peace to everyone.

Well put Maka. I haven't been a member for nearly as long as others here, but was warmly welcomed by the community and am grateful for the good friends I've made, even though I haven't met most of you in real life. The forum's an inviting place and I appreciate all the people who participate as well as Sensei Sakai for his presence here, sharing stories, answering questions, and letting us get a special glimpse behind the scenes. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Yes, another year come and gone and still thankful to the fantastic people who make this forum so great. And, of course, I am really thankful for another year of Usagi Yojimbo and all the hard work Stan Sakai does to create each and every issue.
