Moving to Milwaukee!

Hello everybody!

I have been away from the forum for a while, being busy looking for a job.
Well, I finally found one! And it's in the USA! :D
I'll be in Milwaukee for at least a year (and probably longer if everything goes well) starting this October (unless there is delay in getting the visa).
My girlfriend got a position in San Francisco, so I'll also be regularly traveling to California.

Any Usagi fans in Wisconsin or around? :P

Any advice for a newcomer to the United States?

Congrats on the job! I've never been to Milwaukee, so don't have any specific advice for that area other than make sure you have some warm clothing. It gets really cold up there in the winter!

Congratulations on the job! And welcome (soon) to the US. I wish you the best.

Being in California, I don't have a lot of experience in Milwaukee. But I do like fresh cheese curds (they squeak when you eat them) and pasty's. http://whoonew.com/2015/01/wisconsin-food-traditions/

During the summer, the sun sets late (around 10 p.m.). You have a lot of great lakes in that area that would be fun to visit. I spent five days there a few years ago when we did a "Little House on the Prairie" road trip. People were friendly. I hope it is a good transition for you.

San Francisco is a wonderful place to visit. I'm sure your girlfriend will have a lot to show you when you go there. Everything is so accessible and close together. That will be fun.

Peace, maka

Congratulations on the job and move!

Sounds like it will be a fun adventure for you.

And I think Jabba and Maka have given you some good advice so far. :D

I guess this means we will be sort of neighbors. :)

I live in SW Michigan just across Lake Michigan from Milwaukee.

Do you know when you will be arriving?

I have a Fall Color Tour road trip scheduled for the second week of October which will be going through a part of Wisconsin. We are taking the ferry from Ludington Michigan to Manitowoc Wisconsin (approximately 50 miles north of Milwaukee) and then heading north towards Marquette Michigan.

Thanks everybody!

The winters will sure be colder than the ones I got in Italy. I am planning on buying a new coat in Milwaukee, as I don't think any of my current coats are warm enough for the winter temperatures there.

Yay! At least a Dojo member not too far away. :D

I don't have my exact arrival date yet. It will likely be in October, but since I am still waiting for some official papers before I can start the visa process, I am not overly optimistic for the first half of October.

That was fun and instructive (and it made me realise I was pronuncing Milwaukee wrong. And I'm not talking about the indian pronunciation, but the english one. )

I'll do my best to try most of them, even if the blue mystery ice-cream scares me a bit.
