California Fires
I know many of you live kind of near from there. Is everyone of you and your families ok?
Sending my best wishes to all the California people.

Re: California Fires
Thanks Shashuur,
My family is ok. I do have UCSB colleagues who live in Ventura, Ojai, and Carpenteria that have been evacuated. When they left, their houses were still standing. But they haven't been let back in yet, so it is unknown. UCSB and the Santa Barbara School district canceled all school yesterday and today. For UCSB, this weekend is supposed to start finals for fall quarter. The admin is making the decision right now what to do about that.
Students are dealing with too. Those who live in the area and those who were affected by the fires up north this fall. The air quality is terrible in Santa Barbara and it must be worst to the south.
My department today is continuing to offer our Study Break (we offer students free professional massages in the UCSB Library) today to help reduce their stress during this challenging time. And later on this afternoon, I will be passing out breathing masks for free to students. We have been ordering masks and giving them out as soon as the orders come in.
Thank you for thinking of us. I also send my prayers and love to those affected by these fires. Peace, maka

Stay safe Maka!
Best wishes to you and your friends!
Don't know the latest news, but Sergio Aragonés lives in Ojai and I think he had to evacuate. Someone on Facebook posted this...

Sergio joked that if the facilities where his original art is stored burn up it will make all of his surviving art worth more and he can sell it for exorbitant prices!

Re: California Fires
Update: My family is still safe. The air quality is awful, so we just try to stay inside all day, although we did make it to church today. UCSB postponed finals until the second week of January, which is best for our students. I still will go into work this week to help out our community as we can.
We keep losing and regaining power throughout the day and nights. Our fire alarm went off at 4 am this morning, so it works.
.
Pray for less wind and more mosture and thanksgiving for our firefighters who risk their lives for all of us. Peace, Maka
