General discussion (non-Usagi Yojimbo related) about all things Japan -- Feudal Japan, Samurai, Ninjas, Anime & Manga, Chambara films, Japanese Pop Culture, Otaku, martial arts, history, sushi, giant robots, Godzilla... anything Japan-related!
Gary and I recently spent a night at our friend Naoko's house. I asked if she'd like to see my paintngs and give me some feedback as she's an artist whose opinion I value greatly. She said SURE! and bring your takoyaki pan. We don't really have a takoyaki pan it's actually a Danish pan for making these kool hollow crepe-like pancakes called Ebelskiver but it works! Takoyaki is a Japanese street vendor food that has shown up in Usagi at least three times. They are yummy octopus balls.
Naoko made takoyaki and okonomiyaki and Gary and brought the sake.
A bunch of our friends came over and Naoko made enough for an army. I got a whole bunch of awesome feedback, as most of our mutual friends are artists. A great night!
we saw a banner on a restaurant as we were heading out of town advertising their okonomiyaki. It jumped right out at me as I'd just learned the word and eaten it for the first time, scant hours before. Also I know it's not really a restaurant food. It was one of those huh! moments.
Last time we made Ebelskiver I tried it with the traditional french (?)sugar and a squeeze of lemon... I don't think I'll bother having them any other way it was so good. Don't ya just love good food!
