Favorite Tokusatsu shows?

Post by Jet_Jaguar »

Mine would probably be Ultraman since I can't name very many others. I enjoy watching episodes of the old Ultraman show a lot. At their best, they're almost like 20-minute mini-Godzilla movies with most of the draggy parts (which, IMO, even the good Godzilla movies have) cut out (I think it's rather telling that when Ishiro Honda recut Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster for re-release as part of an early-70s children's film festival, he duplicated most of the cuts that AIP made to the American version).

Speaking of Ultraman, here's something fun I found on YouTube:

Ukelele ULTRAMAN:

And here's one of my favorites cartoons from the (sadly discontinued about a year ago) web cartoon Dr. Fun:

I remember two shows titled Space Giants and Johnny Sokko and his Giant Robot. Good old fashioned monster-smashing fun!

Ever seen the anime series Giant Robo? It's one of my favorites. You can get get a box set of the whole series for about $15, which is a pretty good deal.

I watched parts of some Johnny Sokko episodes on YouTube, but most of them were removed for some reason. I'd love to see a good DVD set of that series.
