hey everyone it's me again. i was hoping anyone could tell me alittle about the name akira. i know it's a unisex name. but i read it's not just a japanese name. it's a scotish and nigerian name and both japanese and nigerian versions are unisex while the scotish version is female. i was wounding it's more common and popular as a japanese name then nigerian and scotish or it's just now a japanese name instead of a scotish and nigerian name.

It's not of the same entomology of course, but akira is the Scottish word for "anchor". Just one of those similar spelt words from different languages.

so akira is a scottish word not a name. is it just a nigerian word too or name? yes akira is a female name too. there's a few girls that have that name like akira from rival school/project justice and there's a girl name akira in school rumble (which is now one of my favorite anime series) it's more popular as a boy's name.

The English spelling may be the same, but their pronunciation and meanings are very different. For example, Mayhem said Akira is "anchor" in Scottish. Depending on the Japanese kanji used it could mean "bright", "chapter" (of a book), the morning sun, or a pattern.

Oh apparently it is a name in Scotland, it just means anchor. Not that I've ever met anyone from Scotland called that. I'd imagine one of those more ancient and older noms...
