Hi,
I found this DojoBoard by way of this link:
http://www.4thletter.net/2009/05/lone-w ... /#comments
My question is: Can any Lone Wolf and Cub fans give me their guess on what happened in the final chapter and will likely happen after that point in time? (I read all of vol.28 and am stumped)
... In the last moments of the stoy, ... does Retsudo permit Daigoro's final action? (if not, i am confused because Daigoro's skills are only basic when compared to Retsudo.
Also, Retsudo has some loving words for Daigoro; but in an earlier chapter, he stated he would need to kill Daigoro to avoid future problems.
Is Retsudo's wound fatal?
The final chapter is leaving me more curious than i expected.
Thank you,
Weather

Don't know if this will answer your questions, but it will probably make you think of a bunch of new ones.....

Click on the pointing hand at the bottom.....
PS,
If you enjoyed Lone Wolf and Cub, you should give Usagi Yojimbo a try as well. While Lone Wolf and Cub is one of the best samurai "manga" written, Usagi Yojimbo IS the best samurai "comic" written!

Also check out the Dark Horse forum.....
If you go far enough back in the manga forums, there are a number of threads concerning Lone Wolf and Cub, a few of which are concerned with people's impressions with the ending.

I have the first 5 volumes of the new series (in Japanese which I am unable to read) which seems to be up to around 12 or so now based on cover images on google. The first link I posted was for scans of the first several pages of the first volume in the new series.
The new series picks up almost immediately following the end of the original series and Daigoro is still a child. He is found by another skilled swordsman / ronin who wanders upon the site of the fight between Retsudo and Itto.
After gaining Daigoro's trust and helping cremate the two bodies, the man sets off again with Daigoro in tow. Fairly soon, they are attached by assassins who might be after Daigoro or possibly the man who has adopted him. I think they were after Daigoro considering how emotional the man appeared to be afterwards. Needless to say, this guy seems to be very emotional compared to Itto's cold granite features through-out most of the original series.
I have no idea what the various sub-plots and such concern since I can only follow the pictures, but the man shocks Daigoro somewhere in the second volume by tearing apart the baby cart and getting rid of it, either to make them less noticable or because he thinks Daigoro is too old for it now (he still looks the same age).
He also begins teaching Daigoro, having him wack on rocks with sticks until they break (the rocks) and his hands are covered in blistors.
Through out the 5 volumes I have, Daigoro and the man do not appear to be assassins themselves, sometimes they have to defend themselves from them, but there does appear to be a plot featuring other characters who are up to something.
Dark Horse had announced a few years ago that they were going to translate this series, but nothing has been mentioned in quite a while. It would be nice to be able to actually read the story and understand the fine points of what is going on.

Hey members,
thanks for all the great info!
About the time I started collecting comics (as well as Usagi Yojimbo comics) I got hooked onto LoneWolf &Cub.
for me LW&C, started with FirstComics releasing English translation comics and then stopping (due to Corporate financial issues). I thought I would never read another new issue again as i don't understand Japanese language.; So when DarkHorse republished the entire story in English (even though the pages were flipped... for a while i thought i was going crazy as the swords seem to be worn on the wrong side!), I was ecstatic.
I'm not online very often so if i seem to ignore a posting, please don't take it personally. Once again, many thanks for your help and treasured amount of Manga info.
Sincerely,
Weather
i'm trying to read all these related issues if i am able: Lady Snowblood (4 vols); Path of the Assassin; Samurai Executioner.
