Kurosawa's Red Beard

Post by Maka »

I wasn't feeling so hot this past Saturday and decide to finally watch Kurosawa's Red Beard. After watching the introduction, I realized that I had rented this from the library before. I decided to watch it again, even though the movie is over 3 hours long.

It is a wonderful and uplifting film. A young prideful doctor changes his assumptions and values as he interacts with everyday poor people. I love the sub story of a young thief that opens the heart of abused girl, and in the process shows her life is worth living. I'm not doing it justice but I highly recommend it.

I think I will rewatch Ikiru next. I remember it being great as well but I don't remember any of details. I watched in 1991 so it's been almost 20 years. Time flies.

Peace, maka

Red Beard is one of the most achieved movie of Akuzawa i think, and there is no such difference between budo and the doctor's way red beard has taken.

Like Maka, I higly recommand this movie, at least for its atmospher

In case anyone here hasn't seen it, Roger Ebert recently wrote a good review for Red Beard:

"It doesn't matter whom you are paired against;
your opponent is always yourself."

It's one of my favorites. When I first watched it my first thought was wondering why it isn't talked of more.
