What do you think is the best anime?

General discussion (non-Usagi Yojimbo related) about all things Japan -- Feudal Japan, Samurai, Ninjas, Anime & Manga, Chambara films, Japanese Pop Culture, Otaku, martial arts, history, sushi, giant robots, Godzilla... anything Japan-related!

My favorite Anime movies are Miyazaki's works. The first one I ever saw was Nausicaä I read the Manga, then tracked down the movie on VHS (way back in the day). The first I ever saw on the big screen was Princess Mononoke (loved it!). But my favorite is My Neighbor Totoro. Watching that made me want to be a kid growing up in the countryside somewhere in Japan. I like ALL his films, so there is no point in listing them each... they all have a way of taking you to a world of imagination. A probably impossible dream - I would love to see Miyazaki bring Usagi to the silver screen.

Another movie I like, would be Akira, although I'd have to say I enjoyed the Manga more. Same is true for Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell.

As far as TV series, I'd have to go with what I have in my library. In no particular order...
Rurouni Kenshin
Inuyasha
Samurai Champloo
Ninja Scroll
The Twelve Kingdoms
Fullmetal Alchemist
Tsukikage Ran
Shin Chan

And not in my library yet, but I like:
Cowboy Bebop

And although annoying I do somewhat like :
Naruto
One Piece
Michael, a.k.a., Maichan
